Also I am from Boise and would LOVE to move back home. From reading it seems that its very possible to get this as an initial base upon hiring since it is pretty low on the seniority list of bases. any input?
I have just under 1800 hours. I was flight instructing until about 1300. Since then I have been flying single pilot IFR in Colorado doing cargo runs. Sums up about 500 hours of multi piston PIC time. Am I very competitive applying to Horizon?

1800 and 500 multi should be plenty competitive. Do you have a 4-year degree? I can't recall if that's a current requirement, but even if not, it would certainly help. I was hired a couple years back with under 1000 total, and under 100 multi. I had no contacts or recommendations.

I was hired in January with ~2000TT and 51 multi, so you should be plenty competitive.
I got Boise straight out of training, and from what I've heard, the only base you can't get right now is ANC, since I guess there's enough people here that really like doing nothing but Fairbanks turns every day.

If hired, Boise should be a definite possibility. I'd be surprised if it wasn't available. Hiring is happening into all bases.

Anyhow I sent in the application last Friday and I'm attaching a cover letter tonight hopefully some recommendations soon.

By the end of indoc, that had changed to "only three people might have to go to ANC" (out of nine in the class), and by the time my class hit the sims, it was "you're only going to ANC if you want to".

CAUTION: This is something that was not told to recent new-hires. There is an approximate wait of 5-7 weeks for IOE. At this wait, you are on training pay which is horrid at the regional level to make ends meet. We had one individual resign awaiting IOE due to this financial hardship. He resigned, attended ground school and sim at the new carrier before he was called for IOE at QX!!!! Folks here are awesome, but finances are finances with the current "shortage".....
even then you're doubtfully going to be out of sim and IOE within 7 weeks like you mentioned.
Bottom line is: even at training pay, qx pays more than ANY regionals out there as a reserve. And I'm not a qx fanboy, I work at skw I'm just stating the facts here.
