I have just under 1800 hours. I was flight instructing until about 1300. Since then I have been flying single pilot IFR in Colorado doing cargo runs. Sums up about 500 hours of multi piston PIC time. Am I very competitive applying to Horizon?
If hired, Boise should be a definite possibility. I'd be surprised if it wasn't available. Hiring is happening into all bases.

1800 and 500 multi should be plenty competitive. Do you have a 4-year degree? I can't recall if that's a current requirement, but even if not, it would certainly help. I was hired a couple years back with under 1000 total, and under 100 multi. I had no contacts or recommendations.

I was hired in January with ~2000TT and 51 multi, so you should be plenty competitive.

I got Boise straight out of training, and from what I've heard, the only base you can't get right now is ANC, since I guess there's enough people here that really like doing nothing but Fairbanks turns every day.

Yes I have a 4 year degree and Ive lived in the PNW almost all my life. Really hoping to hear back soon! I'm still on contract with my current company for another couple months but it'd be nice to get the ball rolling. Under 1000 total and 100 multi? Man that's nice haha that new ATP rule sure made things a little more difficult.

Anyhow I sent in the application last Friday and I'm attaching a cover letter tonight hopefully some recommendations soon.

That's what I like to hear! ANC is the only base I don't really want so that works out nicely.

When I interviewed, I was essentially told "you're going to ANC if we hire you", and that remained the case when I started ground school.

By the end of indoc, that had changed to "only three people might have to go to ANC" (out of nine in the class), and by the time my class hit the sims, it was "you're only going to ANC if you want to".

Scuttlebutt is that ANC is pretty senior. That surprised me. I did know one QX skipper that lived there and commuted to SEA. ANC is pretty junior on the big sister side of the house.

He resigned, attended ground school and sim at the new carrier before he was called for IOE at QX!!!! Folks here are awesome, but finances are finances with the current "shortage".....
I don't mean to be a debbie downer or destroy your argument but the only place you can go to make more than QX Training pay (assuming 60 hours pay) is c5.

even then you're doubtfully going to be out of sim and IOE within 7 weeks like you mentioned.

Bottom line is: even at training pay, qx pays more than ANY regionals out there as a reserve. And I'm not a qx fanboy, I work at skw I'm just stating the facts here.

How early would you apply if you know you can't start till realistically January?

Yesterday. If you get an interview, I'd mention it then. If you get an offer, then you figure it out.
