Anyone have any personal experience balancing Horizon with a Reserve/Guard job? The one I'm looking at will require me to be gone at least 8 days a month.

Default Horizon currency reqs

Fellas, basic "will I be hireable by QX" question: 2k TT almost all PIC ftr/trainer, 800ish IP, EP, safety school and yes I drunk the kool-aid and ended up in DO/CC gigs....and now staff for a 1.5 years before I can get out. QX is a natural fit, I'm a NW boy with strong ties to the area, love all their bases.

I'm seen that Horizon requires 60 hrs/last 6 months; are they going to value/count cessna, etc time to meet that currency req, or would I be wasting my time/cash?

I realize no one can see into the future...opinions welcome!

I'm also in the guard. They don't give any hassle at all about taking time off. Same thing as with sick calls. Standard response is "ok we will drop that trip".

This is why it's import to look at the value of per diem, trip rigs, 401k matching, health benefits, etc.

I'm break even except for the 401k and healthcare for that I lag behind my QX benefits.

By year 10 you will make 100% match up to 6% at SkyWest. But think of the lost savings over those 10 years and the lost compound interest. You are correct in your statement, work rules and benefits mean a lot.

Hopefully I'm not still at the regionals for 10 more years otherwise it would be a significant difference.

Thanks for the response. Pete2800 and yourself have been a lot of help with my transition from active duty. Horizon is very appealing to me because I want to live in the NW. If I can do that and a reserve job I think I'll be pretty happy, pay between the two will be decent, I'll have something to fall back onto if Horizon runs into trouble, and I might be able to get a foot in the door with Alaska down the road. The commute for my reserve gig won't be great (if I'm hired... Interview on Weds) but it would be worth it.

2504life, what is your guard gig if you don't mind my asking.

IMHO another good reason for Horizon is that it's one of the few regionals that's not actively screwing the quality of life for pilots. As in, taking flying from other companies or lowering the bar for pay and benefits (although yes, Horizon pilots have taken concession in recent years).

As far as the guard, I'm in the Air Guard as an A10 mechanic.
