PS Don't go to Horizon to upgrade and get out. Go there for the flying, the west coast lifestyle, the pay, etc. |
The reason I want to work there is I want to live in the Pacific Northwest. I am current 121 with 1400 hrs 500 of which are in turbine aircraft but still no offer for interview???? Does anyone know what the deal is there.

Exactly. It's funny to see the reactions of people when you say you want to work for Horizon. While a major is the ultimate goal for many (mine being the "other" SEA-based carrier), their are some that want to have a good time while working at a regional. When I say good I mean, living in a PNW, the equip. flown, people @ Horizon, QOL, and did I mention living in the PNW. This is probably the single biggest factor of all. While some may not understand, being in that region is like heaven on earth for a few of us. Of course the upgrade could be a little shorter, but enjoy the ride to the top. People get so flustered as to why someone would "waste" time at a place like Horizon building invaluable SIC time, when they can upgrade in 1.5 yrs on the jet at Skywest and be at Southwest, FedEx et al in record time. You think a "waste," I see it in a completely different perspective.
Rock on Horizon! How long you been at Horizon |
Here he is!

You are going to go far in the Air Group. Come on, there is way more to life than flying airplanes. Living where I want, without having to commute for my job is a pretty darn big factor to me. PS. I'm enlisted Navy, as a machinist mate. So, believe me when I say it, I know what it's like to work your butt off for very little money. I think I can get by at the horribly low pay at Horizon. |
Horizon is the safe way. I haven't interviewed with Alaska, but I know some highly qualified people that did and didn't get hired. If you're at Horizon you can still be working in the Northwest. With that said the last three guys I know that were hired at AS were at Great Lakes(3 yrs or less). The guys I know at horizon are 5 and 6yr FO's. Best of luck.

Of course they don't hire just based on that. However, candidates with strong ties to the Pacific NW (family, education, residence) have a definite advantage going in to the interview. The kids in HR love those ties, then assign new hires to LAX or ANC. Makes sense, doesn't it? |
