That's $662 for hookers and blow that you didn't have before, it could be worse!

It just got worse, at least for ANC pilots. 50% of our flights just got cut, so 50% of us will have to move or find a different job up here.

· Four flights (2803, 2809, 2804,2810) that will be replaced with Alaska 737 service.
· An additional 4 flights that will be reduced from the schedule (2823, 2813, 2824, 2814).

<<

This results in the base losing 4 out of 10 lines beginning in April. So, I was wrong in saying 50%.

The company fully expects half the ANC pilots to take their displacement down to the lower 48, and that you won't quit. I hope you guys prove them wrong, lots of operators up there matching if not exceeding pay. Good luck guys

That doesn't sound like "hey guys, thanks for building the market up to the point that it's viable to serve with mainline aircraft."

I'm pretty sure ANC-FAI was a mainline Alaska route up until they opened the QX base there, since I remember Horizon flying a Q400 up to Alaska as part of a publicity tour to try and convince the locals that the Q wasn't a horrible replacement for the 737's they were used to.

I get the impression that the ANC base has been a pretty dismal failure for Air Group, since the Q400's don't like the cold, tend to bulk out or have weight issues with all the baggage, and they're 1500 miles from our maintenance hub when the airplanes inevitably do decide to break.

When I was first hired in 2014, there was all kinds of talk about how the ANC base was going to do all of this flying in southeast Alaska, and it seems like Air Group has been struggling to justify that base once that flying failed to materialize.

Default Crash Pad BOI

Hello, I will apologize in advance for high jacking the thread. I didn't want to start a new one for a simple question.

As Horizon is the only regional with a BOI base, I wanted the opinion of those who work there. Do you see any need for crash pads in BOI? I only ask because I may have an opportunity with a 135 operation, that would require me to be with in an hour of the airport. One option for me to avoid moving my family to BOI, would be purchasing an "investment" property close to BOI, and trying to rent extra rooms preferably to commuting pilots.

Thanks for any feedback you can offer, and again sorry for the off topic post.

I think you could keep a couple rooms rented, but I'd expect a regular 3-4 month turnover. If pilots don't have a house here, they are usually just waiting until they can hold PDX or SEA. If you're open to FAs, that would expand your pool of potentials a lot.
