It has been gutted to the absolute minimums. What used to be regarded as one of the best training programs is now a "self study" CBT program. And from what I've heard, many of the CBT quizzes and computer based knowledge test questions are poorly worded and incorrect. The CBT course was made by a 3rd party, not the QX training department.

The SIM is what is getting people. Our instructors are very good but they can't teach you how to fly IFR. Extra sessions are common and training delays are occurring because of the backlog (in addition to not having enough check airmen which is supposed to be getting better 'soon').

First off, the management talking point up here is that the Q is getting pulled. So if it is anc you want...stay out of the Q.
Since they reduced the base last Feb. I personally have not flown up here. Always on reserve with a 0330 (or 1100 if PM) or so wakeup call to deadhead south for a 3-6 day trip outside. Even if you bid 2 days in a row max, they send you outside for trips. On the last day, scheduling will add turn after turn on you until you hit your max duty day, then put you on the 4.5 hour deadhead back because that does not count towards duty. First you have to catch it though, because they will give you a DH that is already boarding as you are stuck taxiing in between rwys in SEA and headed to the C or even worse the S gates and the anc flight is leaving out of the N gates. So you miss it and have to wait another 2 hours for the next anc flight. Looks good on paper, and is legal for them to do...so they do. Every trip south. Pretty much you end up with a day and a half weekend after that last insane long day.
On top of that misery, 90% sure they are going to close the base. Although, for the last 7 months management has kept telling us to, "hang on up there, keep filling holes for us outside, trust us, we have a great plan for anc. Shiny Jets!" Maybe it will be. Point is, who knows?
The jets remind me, they have the range to make for trips out of SEA and the company has talked about it more than once.
Keep an eye on the alaska pilots negotiations as well, they well may scope us out of anc, or limit us us to what we currently do.
Lastly, even if the base stays open, the folks who are here are here because they want to be here, either they don't want to fly outside, lack a degree...etc. So....there is no movement. You won't get ANC, and if you do, you will be on reserve longer than any base in the QX system. We have FOs who are on year 2 of reserve now. Pause there. 2 years of reserve with an outside commute. Is that really what you and your family are up for? 4-5 have their 1000/121 and seniority for upgrade but are bypassing because upgrades only happen outside and once you leave AK, you won't get back up here.
So...if it is ANC you are after, despite what the recruiters tell you, run away from QX. Plenty of other work in town.
Of course, maybe the shiny jets will come up, and they will work so well in 50 below wx that they will move the rest of the fleet up and make folks commute north to staff the great base we have! Who knows?!

I live in AK and am ANC based. Here is my view of anc, may it help you.

Even if the arbitration panel awards exactly what ALPA proposed, there's nothing stopping Alaska from buying 300 E175's and flying them all over everywhere with Horizon/Skywest/whoever else is cheapest.

Not a chance. The scope the company proposed was "You get no scope protection, and you get no lube either." The union proposal was limits at 76 seats and 86,000 lbs, no limit on airframes.
