What's happening at Horizon and Jets?

90 flights cancelled today because a few snowflakes fell in Seattle. Alaska outsourced the de-icing program to the lowest bidder, and our rampers aren't even trained in deice ops anymore. A bunch of planes apparently weren't sprayed correctly and launched contaminated and the entire program was shut down...
You would think Alaska learned their lesson last winter with the deicing FUBARs we experienced in PDX and SEA...but no, now it's even worse.
It's the beginning of November and it's already snowing, this winter is going to be BRUTAL

If our training department doubled in capacity like they hope it will, and we get the additional E175 sims I think we could staff it. Our classes have been full since August, our problem is "sh!tters full!" in the training pipeline. Way too many people sitting around waiting for their next phase of training to start.
So unless Alaska can dangle a carrot in front of the training departments face (because as soon as someone gets promoted to instructor/LCA they leave) it's not going to happen.
If they gave us flow it would literally solve all of their problems. You can lead a horse to water (in this case our union has been doing that for the last 3 years)....

If they need to, they will. They don't care about any of our contracts.

That being said, you can find better rent if youre willing to drive 30 to 45 minutes. I moved down here from Alaska, and I actually love it here. There is so many outdoor activities within two hours of here. You can go to the coast and explore, or go into the mountain and go hiking or biking.

Well the Portland does have those things. However rent in Portland is getting out of control. A lot of people are moving across the river into Washington, which is where I live.

How long will they keep the Qs?
Saw some recent news articles about challenges at Horizon; what's your crystal ball say?

I am still in training here, so I havent yet received my crystal ball yet. But my guess is they wont go away overnight.

The company has indicated they want a split fleet of Q400s and E175s....As long as were doing flights under 30 min we're gonna keep some...
Our classes are full and our "recovery" is showing positive trends. The training department needs to double in size for all the cogs to turn properly...until that's done its about a 120 day training cycle for new hires and upgrading captains.
