What's happening at Horizon and Jets?

I understand you are eager to be optimistic about your recent Horizon job offer. It is not too late to go elsewhere. The Pathways Progam is a scam. If it was legit, it would be titled Flow Through. Pathways is a desperate attempt to lure perspective pilots away from the competition without any written or legal obligation. AK mgmt says Flow Through can’t happen because QX and AK are two different companies. In reality, that is false. The two AK Captains now working for Horizon who spearheaded the Pathway Program both still have active seniority numbers at AK. Although hundreds of Pathway interviews have taken place, no one has been given a class date. In a attempt to buy time, look for the first Pathways group to be announced only to have their class dates pushed out to 2019. Keep in mind that the Pathways idea came about only because QX is in danger of a severe understaffing in the Q400 this summer.
The vast majority of our longer jet routs have gone to SY. SY will not fly the short shuttle routs for AK because they aren’t profitable.

The downside of the Pathways program, at least at the moment, is that they shut the interviewing down and won't reopen for a while. That obviously reflects the hiring slowdown at Alaska, so not surprising.
Just a personal note from a new guy - I'm enjoying my time here and really love the Embraer. I've been a Part 135 pilot for a few years, so much of this airline s--- is new to me. What's not new is the knee jerk negative reaction to programs like the Pathway. I don't view it as much different than the guaranteed interview program. It's simple: 30% hiring from QX to AK hasn't changed, so why bash the Pathways program? If anything, we should be focusing our efforts on moving that 30% north. How about 50% of AK new hires come from QX? That would be a game-changer.

How about ALL of the AS pilots come through QX. Its the same overall company. You're trained to AS standards. They have complete job records on you.
The Bagwan once said, "I don't want to be the training facility for Alaska." In the mean time, QX pilots who would be excellent AS employees were going to SWA, UAL, etc.
However, it will never happen.

1. PNW flight school with assistance from QX/AS
2. Right seat QX
3. Left seat QX
4. Right seat AS
5. Left seat AS.
It would provide career progression, constant source of records and keep QX's costs permanently down (no 15+yr QX CA's stagnating at the top of the list)
One can dream.

According to the Alaska CP, they have assigned class dates to 30 or so of the 100+ Horizon pilots that opted into the Pilot Pathways program. I spoke to one just a few nights ago. There are about 70 more Pathways pilots in the hiring pool.
The downside of the Pathways program, at least at the moment, is that they shut the interviewing down and won't reopen for a while. That obviously reflects the hiring slowdown at Alaska, so not surprising.

I did not mention anything about the Pathways Program in my post.
I don't think it's an "offer" if I'm already in class.
I was a medical rep for 15 years (between Part 121 gigs...my version of the Lost Decade), and we have a web forum over there called Cafe Pharma. Same bologna as this site...98% *****ing, 2% helpful. Folks (in all industries) lack perspective.
What I said was "Alaska will be fine." What I mean is that in the long run the Air Group will be as profitable as it ever was. Having flown (extensively) on the Slope and in Southeast, jumpseated on combis, and gotten in to places the Alaska 7-3 behind me couldn't, my gut is that the barrier to entry for another carrier is significant. Alaska's route structure and hiring trends may need to contract a bit, but that's not unusual for any large-ish company following a difficult acquisition and merger.

Nice biography. 98% *****ing? Why are you here? I see a lot of solid accurate information on this forum. You haven’t even been to indoc yet and are telling Horizon pilots they lack perspective?

I will repeat that it really doesn't matter how Qx pilots transition to AS - Pathways, regular application or guaranteed interview - because the only metric worth changing is that 30% figure.
