What's happening at Horizon and Jets?

I'd imagine the FO's are heading to the fractionals/part 91/135 and the large cargo carriers who seem to be hiring anything with a heartbeat (No offense to any of those guys/gals - they are getting a valuable type rating and using it as a stepping stone)
Horizon pilots cannot apply directly to Alaska correct? Must go through the pathways program? If that trend continues I wouldn't blame a FO or CA for jumping to a major LCC/Cargo for a few years and applying to Alaska from there.

If it's true, that sucks for those with more flight time...but, not the seniority for the "pathway" program.
Seems an odd move on AAG's part...trying to discourage their own stepchildren's chances?
Usually a parent airline is promoting their WOs...especially to young, aspiring pilot wannabes.

Read that somewhere, too.

I'm just disappointed in AAG.
They talked so nicely at the NW Conf. in Puyallup...lots of great pep talks, and free advice about getting on with the mothership...and what a wonderful bunch they are.
We were also told: If you want to be at AS, QX is the place to be now.
Apparently....not so much.

Who knows what’s happening with the Q’s, with pathway or even with Air Group as a whole. All I know is things will have to change again if Air Group wants to stay ahead. It seems like management thinks they’ve steered clear as they hired agressively for the last year and a half, and they’re now telling people they may not get a class until the end of the year. That’s not going to go over well, people will go elsewhere and when the vacuum ramps up (the real vacuum here in two years) they will have to play catch up again.

Still considering it...among others. (Was actually my #1 choice...I also like the NW, and most of their bases.)
And, I'm not against the Q, either. Love DH's a/c. Flew Beavers for a while...amazing capabilities...like a cub on steroids.
Just disappointing that AAG has chosen to drop their WO pilots DOWN in the priority for upgrade...while claiming the opposite.
Bait and switch.

For a pilot who doesn’t even have a class date set in stone yet, it will be a while before you get to Alaska. I believe the biggest retirement numbers they have in the next ten years is still sub 100. Granted a smaller pilot group than the rest, it still doesn’t help if you’re 400-500 on the list. We only have 200 on the pathway now since they changed it to being here a year and passing a CQ event before being eligible. I think that will continue to change, my guess is 1000pic at Horizon to be eligible for the interview by 2020. The parameters for the pathway aren’t set in stone nor do they need union approval, so it can be a moving target
Edit: The Q is a blast to fly, it’s challenging, it can and will be a handful at times, you will quickly learn that a greaser comes with a little bit of luck with some skill(atleast that’s my experience). It’s also an extremely capable airplane if working properly, I can’t think of any other regional that hand flys a cat 3 ILS to mins, and single engine if need be. The RNP approaches into some of our airports are proprietary, meaning we are the only ones doing certain approaches to lower mins, that does get the pilot geek blood flowing a bit. With that being said, the Q is designed for short legs and you will get lots of them. It’s an easy 4 day if you fly less than 16 legs. Summer flying not so bad, but winter weather in the Northwest mixed with constant in and out of a very overcrowded SeaTac can make for some brutal days at the office.

In all honesty though, these issues are really third world problems vs 10-15 years ago. Want a humbling read? Click on the threads started in 06 or 08 about this place or any airline for that matter. Guys waiting a decade to upgrade, guys getting downgraded or even furloughed. Makes the problems people have now seem pretty petty. I just went through a few threads and it really Is the best of times right now, until it changes
