Aren't happy with your schedule? Use SAP 3 and you will never be disappointed. Agreed about being extra safe, can never be too careful. Especially at out stations.

For me, Horizon was the only option in the NW, and I was happy to get an offer. If I just wanted to "line my pockets" I would take the money and run. That doesn't even make sense considering I was happy before the bonus.
I think the problem with the bonus is they are doing it illegally, using some technicality of you not being an employee one minute and then presto, you are the next. No matter how you see it, you are taking the bonus on all of our backs.

FWIW, one sage piece of advice for aviation careers: you don't want to be the crash test dummy for an ill-concieved anti union program instituted by an infamously anti union company. When you go to upgrade or apply at another carrier you don't want anybody in management to know who you are, really.

If you where happy before the bonus, you have a chance to stand up for unions, which will serve you for your entire career, be it either ALPA or IBT and just say: "no thank you, I will let my union negotiate for me".

If you think on day one of your career that you are smarter than the 100,000 plus pilots who fly under union contracts, you have a bumpy road ahead.

Good morning everyone!

I understand the issues at Horizon, however I live in ANC and my options are limited.

I have a few questions regarding ANC base.

1. Is ANC a reasonable expectation out of (or shortly after) completing training?

2. Reserve time in ANC?

3. Average block & credit time for ANC line holders?

Also any QOL comments regarding the ANC base and AK flying would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I'm curious if the jets will be coming to ANC with AS getting rid of the combis (I'm sad to see those go).

Isn’t riding the jumpseat as a deadhead illegal per union AND FAR117? I’m pretty sure if DH is part of a crew day you need to be in a seat I could be wrong but I thought that was how the union interpreted it at Depressjet?

Yea on my commute the gate agent told me that the jumpseat was taken by a deadheader. I was pretty surprised by that.

1. I'm not sure about this one, ANC is a very small base and usually no one, or maybe 1 person wants it in the class, and usually they get it pretty quick.

2. Years. ANC is super stagnant with no one going anywhere, good news is if you don't want to fly it's the best place to be. You will sit forever, and probably need to go back to the simulator to get recurrent landings in.

3. Most of your lines system wide will credit you 70-75 hours now that we're going back to monthly bids. ANC is easy flying, every day is the same with 2 FAI turns, no overnights and back in ANC in the mid afternoon or night.

As far as QOL goes that all depends on whether you want to fly or not. If you stay up there the whole time and have no previous 121 time you will need to bid a lower 48 base or you will not meet captain upgrade requirements when your time comes.

We're the only airline (starting to hear this a lot now huh guys?) that forces its DHing pilots to ride in the jumpseat if told to do so. Only on our planes though.

The company will try and con the new guys into riding in Alaska or Skywest's jumpseat and those guys never deny us because they're such team players.
