I have a feeling the Q qol will start to seriously diminish within the next few years... My Oct schedule at number 18 out of 75 as a PDX FO reflects that lol

I interviewed two weeks ago and was told I wouldn’t be in class until next year. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for an earlier spot.

I told you this via PM earlier, but for other lurkers out there: Put your name on the waitlist for an earlier class if you want to start earlier. I got a call for an opening a full month earlier than my originally-scheduled class.

Default Sept. upgrade awards (November class)

Looks like the newhire/street upgrade boat has sailed, at least for now. But still fairly junior considering....

3 ERJ (SEA) classes in November. (18 upgrades/transitions)

DOH

6/8/98
8/17/99
4/3/00
5/6/13
11/10/14
3/2/15
3/30/15
10/10/16
10/31/16
2/6/17
2/20/17
4/3/17
4/17/17
4/17/17
5/26/17
6/12/17
8/28/17
9/25/17

No Q400 upgrades were projected, but there ended up being 1 awarded for MFR.

DOH

11/14/16

11 more ERJs due by the end of the year is the consistent word around campus....

Not entirely surprising that the street upgrades has stopped for now. As the pilots that got hired a year ago reach the required minimums to upgrade, they will start to be able to fill those classes.

It’ll be intersting to see what happens to the training program as those on the top part of the pathway list start to move to mainline... a lot of those guys also do a good bit of the training.

That has proven a problem for a number of regionals. Hopefully Horizon will handle it better than they did.

Are those upgrades or are most of them already Captains on the Q400? And won’t there be at least some need to upgrade some FO’s to fill those Q400 seats?

All DOH (except 1) from 10/31/16 and up/senior are current Q captains. The rest are upgrades.

Since we're swapping Qs for ERJs at essentially 1 for 1, captains are just sliding over. So we would be Q FO heavy until upgrade time.

It will be interesting at the very least. It seems that even with the shrinking Q400 fleet they are going to need to fill the Captain seats(in the Q400) if more senior guys keep jumping over to the E175. I would guess too that eventually they will open PDX as an E175 base if deliveries keep up as planned. This would encourage a bunch more senior transitions to the jet.

So with the Q400 being a shrinking fleet the available schedules will also be shrinking along with QOL in that type?

As a guy waiting for a class date AND an aircraft(still don’t know which one) the transition to jets looks to be shaking things up. I’m still excited to get started either way but it’s less clear now what my first couple of years will look like.

With the total number of airframes essentially staying the same, the time it takes to be awarded an upgrade should more or less stay the same I would think...?

I’m coming in with the required flight time to upgrade. A significant part of the equation when deciding if I could do the regional thing was with the expectation that upgrade would happen in the first year. I still think that is likely IF I’m willing to endure what it will be like in a diminishing fleet.

I’m probably wasting my time trying to predict any of this, lol. In the meantime hopefully a lot of those guys that put in the years and hard work that want to go to Alaska get their opportunity with this pathway program.
