Wish in one hand, cr@p in the other, see which one gets filled first...

Really? The retirement driven hiring wave at the majors will be peaking in the next five years. If you get the hours and experience to get hired at a major before then you will be on the leading edge of that wave. If you miss the peak you will be on the trailing edge of that wave. For the rest of your life. In an industry where seniority is damn near everything.

Anybody that thinks a “paid vacation” at regional FO or even Captain level is a good deal while they are flying less than 400 hours a year needs to find a mentor or a financial advisor.

True, but for those of us waiting for a class date it sucks to think that we'll have a hard time flying after training. I hope it means lots of movement is coming for the CA's and FO's trying to continue on to bigger pastures.

Ok well what can you do about it? Damn near nothing. The retirement wave will be going on for 10+ years. There’s many behind us still in training (as in, pre 1500 hours). We are the leading wave. It could be a lot worse. Look at Compass folks.

THIS is a true statement...unless “paid vacation at a regional” IS the career goal.

What really IS happening at Horizon?

On a non-rev geg-pdx. Flight was delayed just shy of two hours because they had to tow the aircraft. Then 40 more minutes for de-ice. Mind you those 40 minutes we're not in a queue and then de-icing. It just took them that long to finish it.

Someone told me many rampers quit in geg. That would explain why it would take them that long to do something they're usually pretty good at. But that makes me think of the baggage debacle in SEA. Rumor has it that a bunch of people got fired and/or quit.

In the meantime, mgmt wants to focus on the PNW and grow their presence here. Not sure exactly where they're planning to grow in SeaTac. Maybe Paine, if the tarmac doesn't swallow our aircrafts.

This smells of a retreat to me. But what is hard for me to wrap my mind around is the talk of growth while you can't keep your rampers.

It's not just the rampers. We're also short-staffed on pilots (again) as well as flight attendants (again). We're apparently doing O.K. on the Q400 FO side, but seem to have a totally inadequate number of Q400 captains. If the company doesn't hire and upgrade more pilots, I expect we'll have another major meltdown this summer.

They hired so many FOs none of them could fly enough to upgrade.
