When do the first of the 30 leases come up for expiration?

You've got a point there. I did 2 years on the 190 and came over to the bus with some seniority. So I never had to deal with the real junk trips. but the 4 leg days on the 190 in the northeast in the winter can be really long, tough days. I did a lot of those. I'm also not based in FLL they do some tough flying into South America on the Airbus.

Im pretty sure early 2018 are the earliest ones. We've already had some come to the end of term and negotiated an extra few years onto the lease. So just because there are some ending in 2018 doesn't mean we have to give them back or keep them forever.

Keep in mind that the 1500 mile rule will end in LGA at some point. It's on hold now with the construction. The end of the rule will redefine flying from the NYC complex. The performance to come out of a 7000 foot runway on a 90 degree day and go to the west coast will be important. The 757 is king at the moment for that. JetBlue will need a airframe that can do that. The CS300 can fill that role.

It can fulfill that role on paper or has actually real world demonstrated it's capable? According to Wikipedia only 2 have been delivered. A lot of people are sold on this airframe but it has a very short history.

Swiss has 6 CS100s, Air Baltic has 2 CS300s. So far, both the CS100 and 300 are performing better than initially advertised, and the teething problems are not as bad as expected. Slow delivery caused by Pratt not being able to make enough engines is said to be the biggest problem by Swiss CEO. By the time delta gets theirs, I'd think a lot of teething problems will be fixed. But performance wise, I don't think there have been issues meeting and exceeding advertised specs.

From wiki: "Upon introduction, both variants are performing above their original specifications and the CS300 range is 2% better than the brochure, as are its per seat and per trip cost. "

The CS100 and CS300 will gain their London City (LCY) steep approach certification this summer for SWISS. AirBaltic plans to fly the CS300 from Riga, Latvia to Abu Dhabi, UAE later this year which is a 6+ hour flight.

The C-Series is very versatile and can easily fly both shorter, regional flights and longer, thinner routes. See this update about how SWISS is currently planning to use both the CS100 and CS300:

Swiss International Air Lines this week made additional adjustment to planned Bombardier CSeries CS100/300 operations for summer 2017 season. The CS100 service will begin operating to/from Geneva (except Zurich, already in service) from late-March 2017, followed by CS300 from mid-May 2017.

The airline previously filed CS300 service from Zurich from October 2017, which remains unchanged, however overall first CS300 flight will now begin from May, with this week’s changes.

Planned CS100/300 operation at Geneva in S17 as follow.

eff 27MAR17 Geneva – Prague (until 06APR17)

I think it's a great idea if we get in early on an entirely new design. What could go wrong?

Real world performance numbers are already available and by the time we get an airframe Swiss and delta will have a majority of the kinks worked out

If you don't get a airframe that can fly transcons out of LGA you will be left in the dust. LGA will rule the transcon market so I suspect something will be ordered.
