Just spitballing, but think about the US/AA merger and how Doug Parker sought out the AA pilot group for support to get them onboard and make the merger happen. AA mgmt didn't want it, but labor did. The same thing could be playing out with UAL/B6. Dont forget, the UAL ALPA MEC Chairman, Todd Insler, also has a seat on the UAL Board of Directors. He could be acting on behalf of the UAL Board in a situation like this...
TL;DR B6 mgmt doesn't know the details, and/or doesn't want a UAL merger

Perhaps. But the timing is odd. If this were a year and a half ago when the rumors were rampant I’d agree. But I haven’t heard a merger peep in a long time. Seems odd to have a random NDA’d M&A teleconference with the merger committees/chairmen for no particular reason. If there was nothing except a desire to keep lines of communication open, why would an NDA be necessary? I’ll believe a merger scenario only when it happens, but it is interesting nonetheless.

IN CLOSING:
We gained valuable insight into UAL ALPA’s current priorities as well as a good understanding of their experiences (positive and negative) in their consolidating event with CAL.
