Absolutely agree. In the same way that AS was forced to spend a lot to buy VX in order to prevent B6 from being too strong, AA for instance could be forced to spend $$$ to prevent UA from being too strong. Maybe toss WN into the mix because this would be their last chance to get a northeast presence. Or DL, just to control the divestiture of JFK/LGA assets. Maybe even AS because they need to grow outside of the west coast. Hell, is it crazy to think someone like EK would want to jump in with a 25% bid? Or is it crazier to think Neeleman would raise enough funds to take B6 private and under his control?
And now thinking about the company buying back billions of stock makes more sense...

Oh it would certainly start a bidding war. A bunch of empires fighting for the last chunk of valuable land. It’s really a game between the big 4. Who wants to make the strategic move.

Either jetBlue and AS merger and still be the #5 biggest carrier competing with the big 4. OR. One of the big 4 buys jetBlue. If that happens, one of the remaining 3 big carriers would be forced to buy AS to compete better and get bigger themselves. Of course this assumes that the ULCCs only merge with each other. If jetBlue merges with Spirit/Frontier/Allegiant/Sun Country then the big 4 may not care as much.

Not much of the Aspen crowd wants to fly the ULCC’s. NYC’s populace? There’s plenty there who would do no frills travel. The question would be how to mix the cabin classes. Even Spirit has limited first class like seats. Just not the service. The latter is easily remedied.

Just a small opportunity we wanted to possibly maybe capitalize on. No thing.
Management lies to you.
No one will know if any merging will happen until it does. Any discussion until then is mental meat pounding. This page and the UAL page are just stupid.

And JetBlue has an organic plan to grow the west coast... oh and plans to grow organically... right up until they put months of planning and billion dollar bids Into buying another carrier.
