My understanding is that if you hold a medical and are capable of being a pilot (under 65) you get a number immediately. That's not positively confirmed though.

It used to be that you needed to have been a 121 CA somewhere before, so prob at least 3,000 or so. I'm not sure what the current competitive mins are now.

After the two years is up, you can go to the line if you want.

I know someone who’s doing this. Just talked to them about it. I’m not sure the qualifications for getting hired, but...you sign on to teach for two years minimum. Your seniority starts your first day on the property. Starting pay is 70k first year, then you go up as on the FO pay scale. You teach sim-only. One event (6 hours). Get 12-13 days off a month.

Used to be 2 and then they had to reinterview. Then it changed and they got a number 1 year in and their initial interview was all they had to do. And as was posted above, I heard they get a number right away now.

They get a number right away now due to the CBA requiring a certain percentage of seniority list pilots. It's a way around having to bring people off the line to instruct because it's cheaper to hire a guy at $70k and let him go to the line 2 years later. Rinse/repeat.
