United doesn’t always pay for extensions .. it’s under certain circumstances which often and mostly only apply to the Heavy side of flying .
Narrow bodies don’t get it . Which is why most of not all guys I’ve flown with so far never extend . They deny the extension well before it even becomes an issue and the company knows it .

Happened to me. No release. Open write up. No catering. No worries. MOT calls how’s it looking to extend when you get to your second leg of this turn, last 2 legs of a 23 hour 4-day, through weather, after an unplanned 4.2 hour sit (no hotel sir it’s not 5 hours is what they would have said IF you can get through on the phone), and landing in Boston (according to Crew Trac) at 0200? Yeah, not looking good. Real-Time Cnx due to no crew. Well, they CNX it 2 hours later. I was home and in bed. Bet those customers couldn’t find a bed at midnight in the meltdown. (7/17 meltdown) Got 3 calls to come in last night. (Day off). Got one call so far today (Day Off) Crew Services guy sounded dejected and sad and even confessed “they’re making us call you on your day off, sorry”.
Keep helping out fellas and make that free $. We’ll do this again next summer. Only way to show the value of our numbers is do your job and go home. Keep picking up RSA. Put in for VDA. Don’t work for straight pay. Let the junior suckers who can’t swap or get a decent schedule fly for straight pay. Keep it up!!! We’re leading the pack!!

This ^^^
I am a yes voter, but this pilot group didn’t know how to behave in negotiations.
Plain and simple. The NC knew the pilot group didn’t have its back and with that said I think they did a damn good job getting what they got.
And don’t try and tell me about the pickets. The real power comes in the day to day.

I will add that the MEC was years late in calling a labor dispute (as well as letting the pilots know bluntly that managements proposals were grossly inadequate (a proposal from management that looks anything like what we have now didn't come until the final hours of negotiations, prior to that it was far worse) which is part of the reason the pilot group was not aggressively behind the NC). Hard to read that paragraph, sorry.
But hey, at least we got Industry Leading pairings.

The real power comes day-to-day.
Go back a re-read the NC updates.
On track, making progress ... Then add in the leaks that the sections were industry-leading and they were pleased with the progress and then the narrative of the NC would tell us if it wasn't going well so it must be going well.
Then add in the bipolar update where the first paragraph communicated the MEC was ****ed and the very next the NC was pleased with the progress.
WHAT IS THE PILOT GROUP SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THAT?
Oh ... blame the pilot group. What a joke! But it's not funny!

The MEC only passed the AIP by one vote. In other words, “let’s give this turd to the pilots to decide”
