The best assignment as a junior reserve pilot is the red eye island turns.
For example, report at 2300, arrive back at 0830. Really efficient. You can take them all, please. |

You would’ve loved the pre-CBA 10 hour/3 days they had. Great if you’re reserve.

I guess I could have made the sarcasm more obvious in my previous post, lol.

Good copy. I abhor those turns. That said, they go fairly senior on the captain side. *shrugs* |

I was an ExpressJet guy. The money is so much better at JB that there’s no reasonable comparison between the two, and I average about 16-17 days off a month, but the trips themselves are garbage. Five day trips containing two redeyes will kick anyone’s a$$, no matter how diligent you are with your sleep hygiene.
In the winter I’ll see the sun from an airplane window about twice a month on average, and at least one of those will be watching the sun rise after four hours of west-to-east boredom. No regrets, though. |
The red eye turns from jfk and bos can no longer be covered by a short call reserve as of tomorrow.
It will be interesting to see the company’s response. They did build some in January which surprised me. I imagine a few months of having those cancel or getting planes stuck in the islands will be enough for the company to quit building them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk When the 10am or later rule was turned on for Reserves, it took several months for the light bulb to go off and they started having 4 hour RSV duty times. This way they can have you start early the following day. In the meantime they were dishing out VDA’s like it was nobody’s business. |
