Open time

Hey it’s early but just helps with making some decisions. What do you guys/gals think about picking up open time till July with people on volunteer? Is it gonna be kosher? Or wait for guidance from the union?

contrails12 03-15-2020 10:29 AM

Not kosher

PotatoChip 03-15-2020 10:33 AM

Wait for guidance.
That said, people are volunteering for incentive lines atm.

contrails12 03-15-2020 10:34 AM

There won’t/can’t be guidance from ALPA

lets use those critical thinking skills.

N311JB 03-15-2020 10:36 AM

I was assuming what we bid is what we get. Don’t touch anything. Treat it as if guys are on the street. But there’s always a few that need that 120hrs

Blue Dude 03-15-2020 10:57 AM

Use your head. They need a lot of no-fly lines just to get up to 74 hrs ALV. That means a metric sh!t ton of cuts are on the way. If you can supplement your 74 hr line with picked up flying, go for it. If you're looking for group permission, I guess you have it. It's not as though we have guys on the street. Yet.
I pity your situation though, if your circumstances are such that you're already panicking about your income. If the last few weeks haven't been a wake-up call to consolidate your financial position and cut your budget then I'm not sure what else would do the trick.

I pity your attitude. I actually have no debt. No car payment. No house payments. I was amazingly enough thinking of the people with families that need to fly to lines. I can live on 40hrs. I’ve been furloughed. Been through a bankruptcy. But thank you for assuming my pitiful situation for try to think of my peers. I love this site

N311JB 03-15-2020 11:17 AM

I guess I was trying to have people become aware that it will become an issue and I want to do whatever I can to keep people from getting furloughed. But BlueDude gimmie your employee number so I can avoid bidding with a fine individual as yourself

Clos77 03-15-2020 11:43 AM

This “Volunteer” round is step one, for those of us that have been thru a downturn before with furloughs, downgrades; I doubt they will get as many as they are requiring which is a sh!t ton. I can only speak for the rebel base but I highly doubt they will get enough; Next round will be “Non Volunteer” reduced lines or we furlough...all part of the process...

I don’t know....there are plenty of junior Captains I can see taking the 50 hour line. They get abused flying their junior schedules with no weekends off, maybe they see this as a break. I think it’ll go pretty senior on the captain side, and more junior on the FO side. Just my opinion/guess, which means little.

1. Is there such thing as non-volunteer reduced lines?

B. There's a guy really worried about the economy and trying to get reelected, I expect a lot of pressure from the government not to lay off employees. Hopefully that will be enough.

It’s as if some people don’t realize that some of us are still on first year pay, and came from low paying regional jobs.
Not all of us have been making $100k+ the last five years.
When I hit second year pay, 4/1, it will literally be the most I’ve ever made in my life.
As much as I can plan for a rainy day, getting through first year was already part of that, so any attitude of “if you can’t be ready financially you’re wrong, blah blah” can go pound sand.
And I’ve been downgraded and through two furloughs before. Some of you just don’t get we haven’t all had these magical careers.

when it comes to stuff like money, Blue dude knows. I would take his advice and not be so catty

SaintNick 03-15-2020 02:22 PM

I was asking someone else, they weren’t sure. Is the 50 hour line a no flying at all line? Or only fly 50 hours. And is it one month at a time?

NO FLY...you get 50 to stay home...

blueballs 03-15-2020 02:50 PM

The union won’t tell you not to pick anything up, they are too busy picking everything up to take the time to send comms out

I am delighted to hear it. We have far too many pilots who *need* 100+ hrs of credit every month and I ass-umed you were one of them. My apologies.

Say what? What did you do with all that money you made flying 747s for a few years?

11Alpha 03-15-2020 07:17 PM

They may have been in LSC last week, however some were doing VDA’s and RSA’s during negotiations. Get yours while you can, especially in BOS!

All those three years? Where I made less than a second year FO here?
Well, besides my wife’s two operations, and the getting downgraded at a regional, and then have to endure another first year pay at another regional, and the new roof...

What money are you referring to??? Walk a mile....

Tough breaks, sorry buddy. Fingers crossed that this one won't affect us for very long.

Dude, wake the fawk up. Outside of the legacies, bigger airplanes don’t equate to bigger paychecks.

we did what we had to do when we needed to do it, but don’t assume just because we flew the Whale during the Dark Decade we were rolling bank.

At Spirit, I made more money as a second year FO than I did as a third year Captain flying 747s into combat zones. And that was on the old contract.

Not all of us were able to walk into high six-figure jobs a year or two out of flight school. Most of us had to shovel s#it for a decade or more first.

Thanks, I had NO idea what our industry has been like.
