Possibility of Quarantine in DR?

So I heard that upon entering the DR, there are guys in hazmat suits taking temperatures. What if one of us had a regular fever and was wrongly quarantined? What if we actually had the corona and were quarantined there for weeks at the mercy of the authorities? Is there health system adequate for severe inflammatory pneumonia?

These questions are valid for other destinations as well. It would be great to have some official information as to what would happen in this scenario.

I was actually in an emergency room in Santiago a few years back and I was very impressed to the level of care I received.

Yeah, would have been close to $1000 in the states, $19.

PotatoChip 03-17-2020 05:08 PM

Probably a good question for the union we are paying to protect us...

Softpayman 03-17-2020 05:12 PM

What about the nurses??

BTW I’d figure the local authorities would be more than happy to send you back to the US of A.

Are nurses part of ALPA? Did I miss that?

Bluetruth 03-17-2020 05:49 PM

Well you don't have to worry about that now because DR has closed its boarders. There goes half our flights.

DR closes and its time to re-run the april bids again. Did we say 400 incentive lines? We meant 2000

well I couldn’t find anything in the news about it. I doubt it. If they closed their borders and didn’t allow anything onto a tiny island they would all be dead very soon after.

For now, just no air travel from Europe and all cruises shut down for a month.

I'm in DR now. Closing effective 6am Thursday. You get a greeting from folks wearing bio suits to take your temp and fill out med questionnaire.

Asked controller last night and he stated as per president of DR airport closing effective 6am Thursday.

I'm more worried about a quarantine in Queens. Two weeks in the crashpad? Or Hampton Inn JFK? No thanks.
Have to commute in morning. I have supplies, etc. to sit in place at home for a couple months. Queens? Another story. If I have to cut the mag wires and hot prop a C172 I'm getting south of the Red River...

Likewise. Flying tomorrow on a transcon. I don't want to come back to a complete shutdown. Or get stuck on the other side of the country and leave my family....

I have an international trip coming up and I'm trying to get into something domestic only. I don't care if I end up in California and they ground all air travel, I can at least rent a car and drive cross county if I have to. If I'm on a little island in the Carribbean, I'm screwed.

I’m dragging an extra bag along - all the bins are empty after all. Kleenex, NyQuil, Sudafed, mucinex, ibuprofen, roll of toilet paper, Clorox wipes, extra non perishable food. If I’ve got to drag across the country sick don’t want to have to hunt for supplies. Or, hunt around Kew in cleaned out stores. I’m in North Texas and the panicked masses have cleaned out the cold meds. Unfortunately I can’t fly with my friend Sig. Sig Sauer. He’s small but packs a punch.

you’ll be fine if you’re stuck in nyc they’re not a bunch of wimps like in Texas. Shelves are full and people are calm.

I read somewhere the French medical people warned against using ibuprofen if you have COVID19. No idea if it’s legit, as it looked like it wasn’t researched enough, but maybe pack some Tylenol as well.

Its legit. Pack acetaminophen.

Most articles say they are still researching it and don’t have enough evidence to confirm/deny. French government says it’s legit. But I haven’t found any other credible/peer reviewed research that validates it. I likely still wouldn’t risk it and will stick with Tylenol, though.

I believe the World Health Organization is now backing as well. Like you said, why risk it?

Still haven’t cancelled any D.R. overnights from what I can tell, but HelloJetBlue mentions the ban. Everything I’ve read says foreign flight crews will be barred from entering the country—turns only. But this is not reflected in FLICA pairings with D.R. overnights yet.

Still have STI layovers in open time. Good time to pick them up? Haha.

If it hasn’t been cancelled, and it hasn’t been formally communicated that it will for sure be cancelled, then I would interpret that as “how would I know it was going to be cancelled?”

APC and a Reuters link aren’t official company communication

stanherman 03-19-2020 10:49 AM

Changed one of my PUJ flights to a ferry flight (assuming to get people out) with myself and the CA still laying over. Doesn’t sound like a great idea to me, especially if they are checking people in hazmat suits and there’s no ability to get food.

Just sounds like a great way to get stuck with no way out at a bad time.

HelloJetBlue shows all flights to DR canceled as of 3/19. But thanks for assuming I was getting my info from here.

As of right now, I’m scheduled to Ferry in and overnight on 3/20. I’m sure they just haven’t gotten around to the modification.
