Since you asked, the most effective way to clean the microphone socks is to spit on your fingers and rub the foam socks clean.
I know they work because I haven't made myself sick.

Man, it is weird to me to watch these bus captains go full ham with the sanny wipes (as they should right now) on everything and then put that ship set mic half an inch from their mouth…
