Politics aside, I can't imagine any sitting president facing an election year would let tens/hundreds of thousands of people lose their jobs right at the time when your political opponent is ready to strike with attack ads and make a push to take your job.
Furloughs for us will happen 4 weeks before a presidential election. Who knows who else will be in the same, or worse boat as the airline industry at that point. Millions are going to need more aid before this is over or even comes back in a 2nd wave. Red tie, blue tie or yellow tie, doesn't matter, I feel it would be political suicide to do nothing right before the general.
I don't think the airlines will see any more help since we already got billions, but other sectors certainly still need help, and more importantly, people need it as well.

As for the politics of it, I think most of the populace is with their guy no matter what. This again will come down to 5-10% of the population of Fla, and the Midwest states that Trump turned last time. A bad economy is usually a death blow to a sitting President, but I think the public will give him some maneuvering airspace on this particular issue.

What if every online discussion became a political name calling match? What if large segments of our society lost the capacity to recognize nuance and assess individual issues on the particular facts instead of what is perceived to be beneficial to the cause I’ve chosen to champion? What if all thinking became polarized, devolved into opposing binary choices where every differing opinion became threatening and had to be vilified?

I heard Biden float this the other day. We still have a constitution, the President doesn't have the authority to postpone an election. Now, first Tuesday in November is moveable, but the new term must start 1/20/21.

The constitution is quite clear on when the turnover must occur.
A president with a bad economy usually loses. A wartime president usually wins, and this crisis probably resembles a war to the national psyche.
And for anyone who's really worried about a hypothetical president losing an election and refusing to abdicate... the FBI would remove such a president, the secret service would let them, and if those guys abdicated on their oaths then the military would do it. We all have our oaths of office, which are crystal clear in black and white, all the permission we need.
If a candidate (including a sitting president) contests the results of the election, he could get some kind of ruling out of the judicial system prior to 20 Jan. That's actually happened before, if you recall. It would be REALLY hard to go against judicial due process.
