WSI

The new WSI update stinks. Great app, not sure why they had to mess with it.

In what regards? I’ve only had to use it once for obvious reasons post-update. Seemed like it was working normally.

Yeah the only change I’ve noticed is that you now have to hold the button for 3 seconds before you dump your active route.

Changes I've noticed....

The FPG function is a pain in the butt now. Before you simply clicked it and selected your timeframe. Now it's tied into the play button, and depending what else you have selected (lightning, radar etc) it becomes a mess.

High Def Satellite over N America is gone, now it's just a global satellite.

Radar additionally has just turned into a global radar whereas prior it had a higher def look to it when you selected N America.

Nothing major but it seemed to be working fine before.

You can still get high def radar but it defaults to global which is terrible.

Edit: Nevermind I thought I had the current version apparently not. Why would they get rid of that option? Global radar is so much worse than HD North America.

Click on preferences and there’s an option to send feedback.

Their response:

Hello,

While the North America HD Radar layer was removed with the latest release of Pilotbrief, the same radar data is still available in Pilotbrief via the Global Radar layer. The Global Radar layer is a composite of all available radar data worldwide and has been optimized for a load time that is faster than that of a single sector. Pilotbrief customers will notice the graphical presentation is a bit different than the North America HD radar layer. This is not the result of different data sources or resolutions. The Global Radar layer is displaying the same radar data at the same resolution over the US that the North American HD radar had previously. However, the Global Radar layer utilizes an enhanced color palette and smoothing algorithm to display the data resulting in a more accurate look.

Thank you,

Pilotbrief Optima Support

I guess that’s what happens when compute programmers get involved. Their algorithm smooths out the display so much that it looks like a big smudge of green, yellow, and red.

I wish they would fix the radar loop on one of these updates. It’s always incredibly choppy. I’ll use WSI to see where the turbulence is and estimated cloud tops, and then use MyRadar Pro to see the weather. It runs a lot smoother and lets you add your flight number to see your route.

I like how you can select the timeframe for the radar lookback. Last hour, last two hours, etc. If this was available prior to the update I was not aware of it.

Any way to ignore annotations from the other pilot?

If one pilot draws, highlights, or whatever on the digital flight release in WSI it automatically appears on the other pilots DFR as well. I would rather not look thru the other guys scribbles. Is there a way to block the auto transfer?

I open the DFR in Adobe. I have never experienced what you are describing.

Digital flight release. It’s funny watching someone that hasn’t flown since early Spring scramble to find the Min Block number.
