If you want a change of scenery and want a London layover you have an ego?

I think that falls under what he meant by the “complete current boredom” part 🤷🏼‍♂️

Then what did he mean by the “ego” part?

Where do humble pilots fly to? The Caribbean? Detroit?

The ego part is a reference to the idea that if they’re an international pilot who can say they cross the pond, it’s somehow a mark of superiority.

I think if you’re looking for a change of scenery, having the exact same layover for at least a year or two may not be the best idea. But that’s just me.

Only reason I’d bid it is if it was the only way to hold the left seat. Or, if I was super junior and on short call as a 190 CA, I’d rather be on reserve as a 321 SQ CA and make 50k more a year. Big gamble though depending on how things shake out over the next year or two in that category, and more broadly as a company.

I think the idea stems from us being a historically domestic LCC airline. This is the chance for some guys to do a new type of flying usually reserved for legacy/cargo widebody guys. But, it’s the same payrate as any other 320 pilot here. So it’s kind of silly imo. But the ego part I think still will exist. Another thing is it’s like the guys who still brag about being in the first 190 class. Guys want the mark of being the first...the first london class. Or the first 220 class. Or whatever. Something about being the first to do something seems to be a thing.

From the other site:

“If it goes past top 500 I’ll be surprised. Like others have said, too many want to say they fly to Europe.”

“What they really want is the "Pond Crossers" shoulder patch for their leather jackets.”

I mean it would be cool to fly to Europe, then it gets old like anything else.

that’s funny about wanting to be the first 190 class...big whoop! Lol well to each their own I guess. At my airline a lot of guys brag about getting high credit months or high credit trips but then I look at their schedule and it’s filled with tons of long 3 leg days, 5-6am shows (I’m not an early bird), yeah no thanks! You have fun with that. I just care about what days I get off...or what days the family needs me to get off.

Great thing about this career, one man's trash is another man's treasure. As the saying goes, bid what you want and want what you bid.

What dep/arvl times do y'all have for LHR? Are they going to be late afternoon/early evening departures out of the east coast with morning arrivals into LHR with morning departures out of LHR back to the US late morning/early afternoon?

If that's the case, those schedules are probably the most commutable trips in the business.

Will y'all be staying downtown or out by the airport? If you're out by the airport, the overnight will get old very quickly.
