October Pulldown?

With the bid opening tomorrow....any guesses on what sort of reduction in flying we'll see?

Or do you think they'll go ahead and publish flying only to reduce it as the month approaches?

Unfortunately I think summer was a nice blip but we're off to the doldrums again with revenue.

It's a great question....
Bid reserve and never fly or a bid a line and hope for cancelations? Hmmm.

Not sure what the actual block hours will be in October, but the pairing for Oct are already loaded into FLICA and they look the same as the previous 6 months.... garbage!

Per Cranky Fliers weekly schedule update..
"JetBlue Trims The Rest of the Year: JetBlue took October down 2.5 percent, November 4.5 percent, and December 2.9 percent. October cuts look to be straight capacity cuts, but November cuts much deeper on off-peak days than peak days. Most are frequency cuts, but the Pacific Northwest looks hit a bit harder than the rest in one way. Fort Lauderdale – Portland (OR) won’t operate through year-end while FLL – Seattle will be out until the holidays."

it’s amazing to me that we are still hiring. We just announced changes to London service. The pandemic is still here. We are begging to lose money again. I think the euphoria of this summer is not going to be like it was this summer. But how long can an airline run on simply profits from summer travel? Our daily capacity is falling, it will be interesting to see how long this wave goes on and how it changes travel for the holidays.

You think it’s just us hiring? Dude Delta is hiring like crazy, a United is giving interviews to just about anyone who applies at this point. I just saw the AA wholly owned a giving out crazy retention bonuses. This Delta variant isn’t as concerning to as many people as CNN would hope. People in this country are over it….and vaccinated. International is a different story. We’ll see a short term dip, but the future will be fine.

I agree with you Roy. I think the company doesn't want to be caught flat footed with short staffing like they where early this summer. We will continue to hire to be ready for the next peak. We made a ton of money this summer enough to weather the trough of the next few months. UK, Europe, Israel they are all on the back end of the delta variant and opening up. IMHO The holidays will be crazy again starting before thanksgiving. I guess only time will tell..

Summer 2021 simply coincided with a large portion of the public vaccinated, low case counts, and domestic quarantines lifted. Vaccine availability really picked up this past April, which was perfect timing for this Summer. That doesn’t mean 2022, 2023 and so on will play out exactly the same.

This operation could use some cuts. Time to reinforce staffing and get ready for the next wave of travelers. We can’t do another summer like this last. Has inflight morale ever been this low?

On the bright side as far as us keeping our jobs goes, leisure travel rebounds much faster than business.

Agreed. I bid LCR for September thinking things would have slowed down, and I’m already regretting it. I’ve never seen so much open time in the middle of the week, and in a shoulder season too (BOS E90). In 2019 if you could hold weekends off on reserve it was pretty nice.
