Default Manuals other than CBA binding?

So the Bluebook has dependability policy, and according to instructors there is a manual that governs them separate from the CBA. What makes these manuals binding on the pilots under the CBA? I'm sure there are other examples.

Also, one of the pilots I was recently flying with said his "boss" was the chief pilot. I don't see anywhere in the CBA where it says that. I've always taken the view my "boss" is the CBA. Is this incorrect? The instructor at the schoolhouse said his "boss" was some supervisor.

Default Oh, so the question is...

other than the CBA, are there other manuals that are binding on us? It seems like the dependability policy is always dreaded, but I don't see that in the cba.

The Chief Pilot is your boss. He is above you in the chain of command. The CBA is just an employment contract, not a supervisor. When you want a special day off or you get in trouble for something, it’s the Chief Pilot you talk to, directly or indirectly.

And as far as “which manuals do I need to follow besides the CBA?” All of them.

So, the Company can write anything it wants in any manual it wants, and if it says pilots must comply, that's the end of it? That seems a bit odd.

Also, where does it say a Chief Pilot is the "boss" of the associated line pilots?

Yes, unless the CBA specifically forbids something. You work for the company.

You can choose not to have third party representation but you still pay a fee which is almost the same price as ALPA representation. I thought this was common knowledge, unionized pilot 101 stuff...

The company dropped dependability into the FOM just before we unionized for this very reason. They wanted to control this document not have ALPA have any say in it.
