But, it's not a halfa$$ check. It's "free" money, as the guy above explained.

What is "free" money? If it costs you seniority at your final company, for decades, and all that that means, is it "free"?

The "free" was meant to be a touch of snark. "Free"', as in a perception of a yes voter to waiting get his hands on an immediate scope payout, sacrificing seniority for this "free" payout, before jumping ship and voting yes to whatever, at the new shop.

Toady is commute day, so there is a little bit of chap going on, I guess.

Especially for a guy who only been here a couple years. That little pittance of money isn't worth waiting for and giving up a class date.
I'm just waiting for my 401k to be fully vested before applying elsewhere at this point. I don't relish the idea of starting over, when I thought this to be my "forever airline", but I also don't want to shoot myself in the foot with all the movement going on at the Legacies.

Exactly what I did.
Three years on 4/10/2022, CJO at a legacy on 4/28/2022.
Dont look forward to starting over, but do look forward to working for a real airline with actual movement.

I left after 2.5 years and gave up my 401(k) vesting. I’ll make up the difference on year 2 cargo pay and be a 757 CA with less than 2 years at the new place.

Honestly the 401(k) vesting is peanuts compared to the value of hundreds of seniority numbers.

Traditionally yes. Barring a lockdown 2.0, it’s not gonna be a big deal. Nobody hired today is gonna get frozen out of anything. 5-6 yrs from now will be a different story after the retirements peak. Also, United was considering furloughing 15+ year pilots. 1-2 weeks ain’t a big deal.

Of course learning that the check was guaranteed, if the new hires know this, changes things. Get out now. However, I also wouldn’t trust the company or ALPA to not play games and not pay out. Just my .02 which won’t even get you a piece of gum these days.

Our last class was pretty small compared to previous classes. Can’t have attrition if no one is coming here. 🤣😉

That may be the top of the peak currently at the legacies, but there's still a ton of retirements each year for the next decade or more.

Agree. Hopefully there’s no 67 or 70 change on the horizon.
