New Hire Questions

Hi everyone, thinking of coming over from the 135 world and have a few questions about JB.

Does JB have a EWR base and if so is it easy to get out of training?

What are they advertising for reserve time and upgrade time?

Do they allow you to drop and trade trips?

Average days worked per month?

Overall happy with the company and could see yourself there long term?

Appreciate all the help as i make the transition!

EWR? Go to UAL. Yeah there’s a small jetblue base there. But there is zero reason to go to jetblue over United if you live anywhere close to EWR.

Yeah i would if i could. Just don't have the hour requirement just yet. didnt know if it were worth trying out jetblue and running with that or build my hours in 135 then try to switch

Reserve time? Im on the 320 JFK and its about 4-5 months on reserve less to get Long Call
Upgrade time? Under a year if you want the 190... don't do it.
Drop and swap? Yeah if you are lucky
Average days? With a Line 15-16
Happy? Not really, everything is delayed you never have a gate when you get back to JFK

We’ll be fine. They say they’re hiring as fast as they can to make sure the operation runs smoothly this summer.
Oh wait, that was last summer. Nevermind.

The entire industry looks like it is going to be on Repeat. 2023 same amount, total across the board, as in 2022.

However THIS year our number of qualified applicants is in the low 100s, all of which no doubt have applications out elsewhere too.

Hard to say about EWR since it’s fairly new and hard to tell who wants in and who wants out, but I don’t think it would take long to get. It’s more senior than JFK and has much less trip variety. Junior CA in EWR is 7 years maybe? In JFK it’s 5 but Covid threw that off so it’s hard to tell where it will land. In theory you can drop trips. You can trade them if the days match basically. I work 16-18 days a month. I like it here and plan to stay. I like the airplane and the people. Driving to work is great too.
