Fourth and goal with the ball on the one and down by 6. No timeouts left and the clock is ticking. This will be the final play of a 79 yard drive that began deep at their own 20. 12 seconds on the play clock. Robin Hayes, the jetBlue CEO, in the shotgun with trips right and an empty backfield. He looks over the defensive set. He signals to snap the ball, and, and, wait, and... he takes a knee. He takes a knee folks. Robin Hayes has taken a knee and the game is over.

WTF? I don't see any level of blue spin juice that makes this look good.

Thinking the same thing. Even if he has health issues why not wait for the judgement and then announce he’s stepping down since it is NEXT month.

Now if it was a dire health issue requiring an immediate resignation then I can see announcement today. I just don’t understand the timing.

I don’t think that’s what’s happening

If JBLU feels good the merger is getting approved, you want leadership ready to go from day 1, you don’t wait for it to get approved and then Robin says “I’m out”

And there is no guarantee a decision comes out tomorrow, this week, this month etc. This is a management group that waited months for a delayed NEA decision, I don’t assume Robin wants to hang out waiting for that, when he won’t be staying around anyways.

My opinion: Joana is a Lawyer, she was very involved with the Acquisition/Merger, Robin's health is not great. The merger is very likely going to be approved and Robin knew he was going to step down soon anyway for health reasons; what better way for the outgoing CEO and BoD to facilitate the change. New CEO, new airline, new management. Robin even said he's staying to facilitate the handoff, that will be well after the DOJ decision before he actually leaves. It's a smart move by Robin and the Board.

I agree, I think this indicates they are starting on their merger game plan already.

Whether the merger gets approved or denied, we're about to start a multi-year transitional phase. Wanting to have consistent leadership in place for the next few years makes total sense, whether they're executing Plan A or Plan B. Why wait for the verdict to come out if you know that either way, you're not in a position to commit to seeing the project through completion?

Whew, everything is going to be ok guys. We’re going to triple down on culture. I was worried double down wouldn’t be enough.
