They “deferred to the right.” some orders.

I did see that. I wasn’t aware UA got those rights. If so that’s garbage. Plenty of other airlines that had already placed orders are well behind on their deliveries.

I don't think there's a good reason why the FAA can't recruit and train enough controllers to work in Jacksonville, which is a pretty good place to live.

It would be awesome if we had a Secretary of Transportation on the case or something.

I think one reason also may be that JAX center is not located in JAX but in Hilliard, FL, which by driving is another 45mins out of town further than JAX airport which is already 45mins out of downtown, and about an hour from where city type activities for younger people would take place. So unless your ready to purchase 5 acres with a homestead and start hog farming as a side gig, JAX center is probably not your first location choice.

Had a relative who graduated with a 3.2GPA with BS in computer science but ended up dreading computer programming, so he applied last year twice to FAA to become controller. Both cycles he got an email response saying he was "not the candidate they were looking for at this time" and to reapply in the future. After trying two cycles over a year period, he said uncle and joined the military. So there's that.

Maybe the government should raise the ATC retirement age to 67. No more shortage.

Good point, thanks.

I see your point, it is out there in the boonies, although a 45-minute commute is not unheard of it does put it at a disadvantage for recruitment.

I don't know how the schedules at ARTCC are, but based on the comments from TRACON guys who are working forced overtime, flipped shifts with AMs on one day, day sleep and then PMs the next, 5 to 6 days a week, the last thing I would want to do is drive any measurable distance to/from work.

It hasn’t. Gary Leff who authored that blog post found information online about LA cuts. The information was from a credible source, Jon Ostrower in twitter. VFTW then blogged about them. However, Gary adds in his own takes into the blog post that are inaccurate and speculative.

It’s the same thing the news channels do now, they tell some truth and then pile on with their own garbage.
