Jet Blue guys...

What is the reason for the 5 year contract at Jet Blue, and does it make any of you nervous that after your contract is up, you may not get renewed?

bluebrother 06-20-2005 04:44 AM

no it doesnt make me nervous. i works out well due to senior guys getting "released" and i get to move up in seniority...... :)

banger 06-20-2005 04:49 AM

Good one!....

Double Digit 06-22-2005 04:24 PM

It has never happened and I can tell you it should have in a few cases so, so far so good.

Realistic 06-22-2005 07:47 PM

Exactly!
So far so good is a very good description.
You see, you think that every manager/director/instructor/check airman/committee member at JetBlue is infalable because our selection process is SOOOO much better than everybody elses and therefore we couldn't possibly have introduced incompetence, or greed, or any of those other bad things that I've seen so often displayed in those who manage me.
And so, if someone is fired....it must have been for good reason and thank God we don't have a union defending them.
I'm more of a realist.
I've seen the incompetence and the greed...YES even here at JetBlue...and I believe in a good defense.
A good defense requires a good contract...not one that allows termination for violation of the Values without first stating who defines the values.
A good contract (one that provides peace of mind) is derived much differently than ours was.
Collective bargaining and representation rights (not ALPA, settle down) can provide peace of mind and.....
Redistribution of wealth.

very interesting statement, naive and ignorant, but interesting...

you see, collective bargaining is exactly that, once you start to negotiate EVERYTHING is on the table. so what we have right now , could and possible not be there after your union reps start to negotiate. it could work out,(most likely not, due to the industry environment i.e. union pilots losing pensions, taking paycuts,etc,etc... but as we have seen from outstanding union representation at other airlines in the past 4 years, it could get worse.

the REALITY is (again,as we have seen in the last 4 years from great union representation, a contract isnt worth the paper it is written on. just ask the united pilots, delta pilots (what happen to THEIR INDUSTRY LEADING PAYRATES. THEIR NO FURLOUGH PROTECTION in their COLLECTIVE BARGAINING agreement work out well)

realistic, YOU need to be realistic. as we all know, there will always be 10% of the employees who will be idiots. as far as redistribution of wealth, please compare the compensation packages of dave neeleman, dave barger, etc. to those of your wannabe airline executives.

as far as senior pilots getting better schedules and a better stock price. well, seniority has its privileges, they were the ones who interviewed in the beginning while you were probably saying: "jetwho, they wont make passed 3 years".........

p.s. next time your in lgb, ask who is paying the lawyer bill (while it is still under investigation) for the pilot who showed up late for drug test???

wow

You guys seem to have differing views while working for the same company... is this across the board at JetBlue?

Blue 2 06-27-2005 05:32 AM

Of course we have different views, as a group we are still allowed to think on our own. And all that time pull in the same direction to help the company succeed.

nospin 06-27-2005 06:50 AM

Hopefully we will all put those views in the survey and then continue to work together to make jetBlue stay what it started as: a team working together to succeed and make our cutomers happy which makes our paychecks keep coming! :)

Don't people in your organization have different views? They did in my military organization. Anyway, there are about ten guys (out of over 1000 pilots) that regularly comment in this forum. Probably not very representitive, statistically.
