For the life of me... why you wouldn't wear a lanyard right now is so far beyond me. it takes zero effort. none what so ever to show that you support your union.
You're throwing a middle finger in the face of the pilots that you work with that are fighting for your benefit. but hey, ef them. You'll get the benefit of their work lanyard or not.

The lanyard isn't to support the union, it's to support our volunteers. The volunteers spending time away from friends and family bargaining on your behalf to get you better working conditions. The P2P volunteers taking time out of their days off right now to call you and remind you to take the survey and answer any questions you may have. That's time people are taking, uncompensated, away from their family time that benefits all of us.
It's discouraging to see so many not wearing their lanyards. It's not about ALPA national or the MEC. Seeing people not wearing their lanyards makes me think, as a volunteer, "why am I spending this personal time to support our pilot group if it's not appreciated?"
Wearing your lanyard shows those volunteering for the benefit of all of us, that you support them.

To be honest, too much emphasis is placed on the lanyard to "support the union."

I'll offer this question to southerner...why don't you wear a lanyard? What is the downside to wearing an ALPA lanyard? "The more they pressure me the more I don't want to do it" is what you said earlier. That's what my teenage girls say. That's an immature and frankly dumb and invalid excuse to not wear it. Grow up and get on board with the union you profess to support and the pilots with whom you will join on the line.

I think more than that it is to show unity with the pilot group as a whole and the union leading the pilot group as elected representatives. Volunteers don't care about accolades or other pilots support for them (at least most of them). They don't need validation or thanks for their time by seeing a lanyard. Pilots wearing lanyards shows management we are unified (at least those of us who wear it) behind our union and will do what the union instructs us to do when the time comes (wearing a lanyard now, holding a sign, strike, etc. later). The counter argument to that by the lanyardless is..."the company doesn't care about stupid lanyards...lanyards won't get me a CBA." If they didn't care, they wouldn't have filed a grievance over equally "stupid" luggage grips. It's a valid metric they look at to see who is behind the union and who isn't.

Yeah there is NO REASON not to wear one.
I hate hate hate lanyards and I wear it.
The union asked you to do something easy there is no excuse.
