Selected into JetBlue's ab initio program

I got past the first step of JetBlue's ab initio "Gateway Select" pilot training programming.

I knew the program got a lot of hate here ("I would never fly with someone who came from this program.") when it was first announced, so thought you all would be interested to put a virtual face to it!

I went to a good 4 year college, and currently work in a well compensated technology-oriented field. But I have always loved aviation, and frequently wonder if I should have focused on that instead.

In college, I took the Navy's ASTB (aviation standardized test) and did very well (think 95th+ percentile good), was accepted into OCS with a pilot slot, but was ultimately told I could not attend due to some unfortunate medical issues. I thought the aviation "bug" in me was put out then, but when I heard about Jetway Select I could not avoid applying to it.

So what does this wise board think? Good idea? Bad idea? Is this the worst thing to happen to piloting in America?

Hello,

Thank you very much for your interest in the Gateway Select Training Program, and for submitting your application! We are very excited to share that after reviewing your application and essay, you are moving forward to the next phase of this process, the Gateway Select Assessment.

What to expect:

Next, you will receive a separate email go to a PayPal site to pay the assessment fee - $200, which covers the cost of the assessment as well as the testing facility fees.
After confirmation of payment, you will be invited to self-schedule your test.
The assessment will take up to 3 hours to complete, so all sessions will be scheduled in 3 hour blocks.
The assessment can be taken at over 500 testing facilities across the U.S., and 95% of the U.S. population is within 50 miles of a testing center.
If you schedule to test, and fail to show on time, we will not be able to refund your assessment fee. If your availability changes, you can reschedule your test time with more than 24 hours’ notice.
Next Steps in the Hiring Process

2. Onsite Interview

5/16/16: Invite most competitive candidates to onsite interviews
Onsite interview dates:
Orlando: Week of 5/30-6/3
New York City: Week of 6/6-6/10
Note: A First-Class Medical Certificate is required to be shown during your onsite interview. For information on what is required to obtain this, please go to: https://www.faa.gov/about/office_org...ide/standards/

Before you go any further, find the nearest FAA Aviation Medical Examiner and get a 1st class exam.

Great way to get to Jetblue, you basically get to bypass the regionals...$125k is still not a bad price tag since housing is included for the entire duration..

Agree...Definately do this.

If you would have read his post, one of the requirements is to show a valid 1st class medical at the interview.

What they said. Especially in light of your USN experience.

Yea, after he pays the $200 fee and has the stage 1 assessment. I was saying to do the medical exam right now before he goes any further in the process, but thanks for being a dicktard.

Hey that's offensive to both diccs and tards.

Short cuts to the front seat has never been a good path. People have paid the ultimate price for incapacity or lack of experience. Darwin should have a chance to look you over a bit before your allowed to pilot an airplane with people riding in the back of it. At my airline I've seen many FE's with 10,000+ Hours panel time struggle at the flying part of the job, and these are experienced crew members. Also are you on the hook for the 125k if your not successful at the end of this training contract?

Bankruptcy will work. Airline CEOs use it all the time.
