Default First Officer Schedules

Anyone find it strange that every month JFK First Officer Schedules are late....due to IROPS, Asian Bird Flu, Mad Cow Disease, ETC..

First, I agree that it is ridiculous how the FO schedules at JFK always come out last by a long shot. They have to be after the others, but all of the FO schedules should come as a simultaneous release.

In this case, it is the direct result of crew planning not doing their job correctly. One Captain's vacation bid was not correctly in the system, so the entire JFK Captains schedule did not get done on time since it had to be run a second time. Then, as you probably know, the training center had to figure out how to get the IOE on Kevin, Jon's, etc. schedule...that then caused the FO schedule to be delayed so all the FO's had at least 24 hours to redo their bid.

I am concerned that if it takes this long to get the bids done with our "business partner" now, what is going to happen as we continue to grow?

Multi-tasking is not one of our strong points.

A short term solution might be to run the JFK Capt and FO bids at the same time. The downside is that you would have your schedules altered/displaced by IOE (not pay protected). The upside is that you probably would get your next months schedule MUCH sooner.

I think getting a schedule sooner increases QOL even at the expense of waiting for "the ultimate schedule". Of course, that is just my perspective. If this sounds interesting, I am sure management wouldn't mind because it would save the hassle.

Until manning and materials are adequately in place, I don't know of any other vaccine.

Having them done by the middle of the month is quite nice, though. I've not experienced much of that in my airline career.

However, the trips available? I think we can do much better.

I would love to see our schedule run the same time as the CAPT. Other airlines get their IOE/OE trips by buying them from the FOs. Now, that would be good for those lucky FOs if JB would do that, but would cost the company many $$$$. But it is unfair for JFK FOs to bear the brunt of IOE and OE for the entire company. This drives the JFK FO productivity down compaired the Captains or other base FOs. Obviously it is not fair. Where is the caring?

Some of the things they should do is either do JFK first, as LGB and FLL only take 1/2 a day to do. Then release them all at the same time. Then run the (PTO/UTO/Triptrade/Opentime) windows as fast as they can. LGB and FLL would still get done faster than JFK as they do their windows in 1/2 a day, but JFK always takes 1-1.5 days to process.

Or even do them on a rotational basis. Then at least we would be first 1/3 of the the time.

Then there are some months where the pairings are not released till the 8th, the Capt bids close the 15th, the FOs close the 20, then with delays and 1.5 days per windows I have often seen FO not get their final schedule until 28-29th of the month. Not good at all.

But Like I have said... Where is the caring value? No where to be seen....

Just my opinion...

Once again, another month with no PTO/UTO. 82% denied due to no reserves. Don't worry, you can have some time off in Sept.

Hello JFK First Officers,

Due to an administrative qualification error, September First Officer bid awards for JFK must be recalled and reprocessed. Several E-190 pilots were inadvertently included in CLASS during the award process. These were senior pilots that were awarded A-320 trips that they are no longer qualified to operate.

The Scheduling Committee and Crew Planning discussed several options for managing this error and we believe that recalling and rerunning the awards is the best possible solution to preserve and protect seniority. We will make every effort to minimize the affects of this error by expediting the process to maximum extent possible. We believe we will have a revised award no later than Friday, August 19th.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Regards,
Crew Planning

Hey, when your right.

What a joke!

Next month: Mad Cow Disease! And we'll be sure to lower your line value as a result! It works for us!

Cool

My previous life I was thrilled if the schedules, all seats, came out before the 25th or 26th of the month. Most of the time we didn't know what our schedule was going to be until the 30th or 31st. Yes, crew services/planning needs some serious work (under statement, I know) but at least they try and correct the problem instead of telling us to live with it.
