In base layovers we’re made possible because it wasn’t specifically precluded contractually, we let it happen. Our pairings are only as good as our previous negotiating committee.

Whats to keep them from just openly violating our contract? Remember, according to our own union they can do this and the arbitrator will definitely, 100% rule against us.

It’s not that the arbitrator is 100% going to rule against us, it’s more like they could rule against us… and that’s scary enough.

Plus we need to remember ALPA’s cut of $30 million is $500,000. On the other hand, ALPA’s cut of zero is… zero.

A simple call to crew services saying “this pairing is not contractually complaint” would likely suffice…has worked for me the times it’s happened. If it doesn’t, then “ok, well there’s a good chance if I have to do more than 4 legs I’ll be fatigued, just as a heads up” should do the trick. If that doesn’t work, then after leg 4, another call saying “ok, well as i predicted, I’m fatigued” after leg 4 would take care of the rest. And there’s zero way a contractually noncompliant pairing causing fatigue would be the pilot’s fault, so it would be pay protected. Easy.

Well if you continue to be sold ideas like that from our union you can guarantee to continue to be rolled over. You might as well give up now. The company only does what the union and its membership let them do to us. Hold the MEC and NC accountable. Again over half this group has yet to even sit down and read the contract front to back…. That would be a starting point.

Only South American continent destinations open to non FLL crews (for now) are Cartagena and Guyana I believe……. You can have all the 24 hr Guyanas you’d like I suspect…. As for layovers in general (Caribbean/SA or otherwise) they range from 11-24 hrs with the very odd 48/72 hr layovers which go very senior.

Red line is going away. So that will likely change.

You can jumpseat on any US pax carrier’s metal internationally, you just can’t actually occupy the jumpseat.
