The pay rate difference between bus and the -300 is quite small. When we had a 10% gap between the 190 and bus the most junior captains in the northeast were similar seniority on both planes. I assume it will be similar unless it’s something specific to do with bases. I also assume once we actually start taking planes that there won’t be many upgrades available on a shrinking fleet. Stranger things have happened though.

I don't think this strategy exists anymore, at least for the time being. When I was hired, a lot of JB guys told me to not worry about starting out on the 190 because you'll gain seniority quickly and can makeup the 10% difference in pay by holding a line quicker, and then at your 2yr mark switch over to the bus. Historically you could walk right into the airbus with 2 years seniority into almost any base. Now I can't even hold BOS bus because for some reason they're not opening any slots up, so even as a guy with a couple years here under his belt I'd be stuck commuting to JFK if I want the Airbus. Not only that, but even if I could get into BOS I'd be stuck on reserve again vs having some seniority and a real schedule on the 190. It's a weird time as far as staffing goes.

E190 ain't no Rocket Surgery. I wouldn't downgrade/transition to E190 FO prior to upgrade.

It's not a bad plan, but probably not necessary.

I think they were talking about bidding the 190 as a new hire. Although, who knows whether or not the first upgrade opportunity for someone hired today would be on the 190?

Default Holiday Pay

I thought that holiday pay was pay protected from scheduled block to actual credit? If you under block during the holiday that you still received the holiday pay that you were scheduled for? Am I wrong?

Ummm it’s double your pay rate for scheduled or actual credit or four hours whichever is greater.

The real question is what are you doing underblocking on a double pay day?
