I'm planning my next career move. I hit my restricted ATP minimums 400 hours ago, but have still been instructing because I enjoy it, am making pretty good money and have a good quality of life. That being said, I plan on moving on to flying jets in early 2024.
The next logical step would be the regionals, but most of them work 4 day trips. I'd rather work 2-3 week trips. I'd also love the chance to fly international trips. Would someone with a CFI background, with only 2000 hours (mostly single engine piston) every have a chance to get hired directly on with Kalitta or a similar company? Or are the regionals still a necessary stepping stone?

you can do what you want obviously but id get the ctp course and go to abx asap. they are doing job fairs right now. dfw mia phx. then go to kalitta. the fact that a cfi can go from 1500 hours in a 172 and straight into the right seat of the 767 is absolutely insane right now. if you think you can handle it i would jump immediately because that window could close quickly. and this is unprecedented so you dont have a choice but to go to abx anyway if you want to do this. hopefully yo make the jump are successful in training and then come back onto this thread and talk about your success story.

Another option for you is to come to Atlas Air. You would do 2 years on a 737 to learn the jet and the way of doing things at Atlas - then you can go to the 777 or the 747. As an FO you fly and taxi the Queen. You’ll definitely see the world then.

2 years on the 73 sound miserable.

Why? What is it young people have against the 737 these days?
In my day CFIs thanked the gods of aviation misfortune if we were blessed with a job flying a Metroliner or Jetstream... but today a CFI is too good for a 737? I don't get it. At all.

Probably because I've been on the 74 for 6 years. Boeing is not known for their comfort.
