Kalitta ceasing ops?

A former flight engineer turned management pilot has been advising new hire pilots that Kalitta will be ceasing flight ops after the first of the year. The company's Oscoda operations will remain, he says. Anyone else been told this?

Czech Airman 12-23-2015 04:16 PM

Must not be getting the Amazon contract.

longhauler 12-23-2015 04:42 PM

A former FE turned Management, well that does not narrow the field.

Forty5N 12-23-2015 07:17 PM

OK,
Lets think about this.

How many former F/E's have become pilots and are in a management position?
B.A. ??? thats about it.

Hmmmmmmm

ghilis101 12-23-2015 11:47 PM

haha. a highly profitable cargo operator that makes more money than major pax airlines isn't going to shut down just because theyre in mediation.

This isn't evergreen where they owed everyone money and were in the red for years. K4 is making a lot of money and Connie has race teams to pay for. In some time K4 will be Evergreen, though. So yes, I see this happening in about 5-8 years.

Hammer12 12-24-2015 03:20 AM

Im scheduled for class after the first of the year... Hope this isn't true..

orka 12-24-2015 05:37 AM

You one of those new hires goldfinger or just a new troll?

Pilots with U.S.-based Kalitta Air have voted 213-7 to authorize a strike, ... the elected chairman of the APA Teamsters Local 1224

Perhaps Jan & Feb are slow cargo months and management can park planes during that time period and signal to pilots that if you want better pay we will be out of business. I believe in the FAR regs an air carrier can only be "dormant" for 60 or 90 days and then they must surrender their certificate to the FAA. So the parking may only last 60 or 90 days max.

maxjet 12-24-2015 07:02 AM

Nothing is going to happen to this operation in the near future. The moron that posted this, is just that, a moron.

4 things just off the top of my head that go against the moron:

1. K4 has contracts with performance penalties attached. In simplistic terms, just like the lease on an apartment you just do not walk away from that.

2. Connie, besides what everyone says, does not own everything. He does yet own a number for the 400's. Yes, his name is on them as the owner but they are financed through another source. Newsflash, nobody wants old BCF's anymore no matter how well they have been maintained. The zero fuel weight is lower and the fuel burn higher. Selling them quickly is out of the question.

3. If we do park airplanes after the first of the year, it will be due to crew shortages, not lack of business, or Connie cutting off his nose to spite his face.

4. No airline, no race teams.

Poster above who is in the next class. If you do not have another job that pays this well then come here and after you get online put out your resumes if we still do not have a contract. Do not worry about a furlough. Very strong rumor, much much more reliable than the moron above is that we are losing 30 more pilots to our nearest competitor in the first quarter of 2016.

Sadly, in my inexpert opinion, We have been offered, and probably can get, a CMI contract with an Asian carrier. If we got that contract, Connie would make enough risk free money to settle an industry leading contract AND fund an additional race team. Unfortunately, no contract, no applications. They just don't seem to get it up there in YIP.

Jan is supposed to be busy according to scheduling. Nobody's parking anything. If this is Mgmt's attempt to instill fear they will fail miserably. K4 is turning away or subcontracting business because they can't staff airplanes. They cannot accept the fact that people aren't lining up to work there anymore.

Thanks.. I appreciate your response... I guess someone's either bitter or really bored with their time...

longhauler 12-24-2015 07:57 AM

Look at his APC join date, Oct 2015. Why would BA be spreading such drivel? He has as much at stake, if not more. Can Connie support the race teams with OSC? Would he move assets to support a probably thinner Amazon margin? I believe Connie would cut off his nose despite his face to save face and prove he was right. In 2005 he did a video in which he stated the 400 was niche airplane and he would never owe them. PS told EG that he tried to talk Connie out of the 400's in 07 and 08 as they would bury the company.

longhauler 12-24-2015 11:06 AM

Another point that is talked about is the need for pilots to start and airline, oh yea and the need for the big FAA five to establish a new certificate. This is a big task, unless you buy one! hmmm, now that is a thought.
Merry Christmas all.
I am just throwing ideas around, I don't know a thing, well except I will be home for Christmas and that is very cool.

Czech Airman 12-24-2015 01:37 PM

When K4 shuts down due to the impending work dispute, will he start up a non-union K5?

Czech continually misses the mark. Crawl away.

Merry Christmas, and Buon Natale to all my K4 brothers and sisters, me thinks you aren't going anywhere( except up when you get that contract), Godspeed you all , a proud alumni : )

WhaleWrangler 12-26-2015 02:49 AM

BA is an idiot and responsible for more heavy landing checks than the rest of the company combined. Probably bitter that his plan to be a CA, Check Airman, sim instructor on the 767 has (is being) been shot down.

K4 is not going anywhere right now.

Well, before you start bashing someone, one of our own I might add, please note, that at no time was he EVER confirmed to have been the source of any rumors. If you are going to call someone out, either get the facts right, or put your real name on here, so he can come and see you personally to discuss it. Bruce is a big boy and can defend himself I am sure, but you are over the line with these kinds of statements about our union brothers.

HercDriver130 12-26-2015 12:26 PM

oh...but its okay for you Max.. to call our union brother Goldfinger a moron.... ?? sorta being a hypocrite aren't you.....

No not at all. I am not calling Goldfinger out by name. Also Goldfinger actually wrote what his opinion was. In addition is Goldfinger a member of our union? What Whale Wrangler has done is taken hearsay info and put an actual person's name to it. Huge difference in my opinion.

HercDriver130 12-27-2015 07:44 AM

Goldfinger absolutely is a member of our union and I will absolutely vouch for that. He simply posed the question as he had heard of this happening. I don't believe that makes him a moron.

maxjet 12-27-2015 08:07 AM

So we have a difference of opinion. So what? Your statement is that I am a hypocrite. BTW I am not the least bit offended by that my thin skin friend.

HercDriver130 12-27-2015 11:11 AM

:) .. oh.. and as far as BA being a union brother.. .not hardly... last I looked he was a Management pilot.. and they DONT pay union dues while they hold management status. If and when that changes...you would be correct.
