Which airlines are you competing with to attract and retain pilots?

At Atlas, we are competing with DAL/AA/UAL/FedEx/UPS/SWA for new hire pilots, and most of the pilots that leave Atlas are leaving for the above carriers.

If Atlas wants to have a successful airline, and staff all the current flying and growth they expect, they will have to compete successfully with those carriers, so they will need a contract that is reasonably competitive with those carriers.

At Kalitta, I don't know who you are competing with for pilots, or where your pilots are leaving for. But, whichever companies you are competing with for pilots, you will need to have a similar contract, or you will grow smaller and smaller, as the pilot shortage increases in intensity.

I did hear that several Kalitta pilots recently went to China to fly...because of the better contract situations available there. The highest published pay in China for Captains was $25.5K/month base pay, last time I checked. Highest base pay actually received was $30K/month, last I heard.

Good luck with your TA. I hope u guys get want you want, and soon!!!

Namaste...

Let Kalitta Guys decide!!

B. Hostile Areas

1.
Definition of Hostile Area
The term "Hostile Area" means:
a.
Any geographic area so designated by agreement of the Parties; or
b.
A geographic area outside the United States of America in which (i) there
is a declaration of war, active combat operations, or acts of terrorism are
occurring or are imminently threatened at times when Crewmembers are
or would be assigned to such area and (ii) there is a materially higher risk
and an imminent threat of physical harm or danger to Company aircraft
and/or Company personnel as a result thereof.
c.
A smaller geographic unit within a country (e.g., a city) may be identified
as a Hostile Area without rendering the entire country a Hostile Area.
2.
Identification of Hostile Areas
a.
The Company will identify and maintain a list of locations identified as
Hostile Areas. The Company may add or remove locations from the list
of locations identified as Hostile Areas.
b.
The Company will provide the Union with fourteen (14) days notice prior
to the removal of any location from the list of locations identified as
Hostile Areas. The Company shall also notify the Union of any additions
to the list of locations identified as Hostile Areas.
3.
Hostile Area Disputes
a.
If a dispute arises as to whether a location is or is not a Hostile Area,
representatives of the Company and Union shall meet within seven (7)
days of the initial meeting request to attempt resolution. If parties cannot
reach a resolution, within seven (7) days of the meeting, the matter shall
be heard before the first available arbitrator from the standing panel
named in Section 20.
Pending the outcome of the expedited interest arbitration, an area shall
not be designated as a "
Hostile Area;" provided, if the location is
designated as a “Hostile Area,” Crewmembers will receive applicable
Hostile Area compensation on a retroactive basis for trips to and from the
location during the period of time the location was designated as a Hostile
Area by an Arbitrator.

One thing that can be added to the contract as a backstop would be something along the lines of

"Any place the insurance requires prior notification/permission and or premiums to take the aircraft and/or considers a hostile area."

Generally speaking there is a "geographical limits" section in the aircraft insurance binder that spells out where you can't take the aircraft into or over without prior permission/notification and sometimes paying a premium. Sometimes not at all.

Anything outside of normal geographical limits by the insurance company would be considered hostile in my book. This would just be a backstop incase the company tries to say otherwise.

Since you guys regularly go into these places you may have an insurance plan that doesn't spell these things out. In that case you would base it on a third party insurance companies geographical limits coverage.

We have had a few go just about everywhere... Attrition has slowed to a trickle over the past 5-6 months. averaging 2-3 a month and we still have them coming in the door... don't know what to tell you.

As for China.. ONE has gone to china.... and he wont be missed.. another SAYS he is going to china...but has been saying that for months... yet every month he still is here to bid... so...TWO maybe in the nearly 6 years I have been here. Only time will tell how things will shake out...

Is it true K4 pilots will have unpaid 1 in 7's in the new contract? Up to 3 per month?

Do you guys get to keep your free health insurance?

How many hours is a duty day worth? A sick day? A vacation day?

Did you keep your ability to refuse an extension?

What does overtime pay? What is the trigger for overtime? Exceed number of days or is it hours ? Or either?

Yes compared to no 1/7's paid under current agreement.

No.

4,4,4

No extensions.

Pay on a scheduled day off is flight time X1.5 or 4hr/day whichever is greater.

The only thing I would add to lion flyers list is that our healthcare plan is VERY stout... and even with the new contributions... a family plan will cost 250ish a month NOW.. and 400 in year 4... its better than most airlines out there.

IF you have a 4th or more 1/7 in a 16 day month... yes one fewer day per month... thats 12 more days at home a year.... it triggers a 4 hour payout.

NO, we still receive guarantee and line guarantee. The company used to be able to assign and not pay additional. Now 13 of 16 must be paid additional 4.0 per day.

I was told 1st year $200.00 per month to 4th year $400.00 per month
