Subic Resort?

Got a 96 hour Clark layover in June. Would rather not sit at the Holiday Inn for four days.

Can any Purple types recommend a "resort" in Subic that's worthwhile (clean, beachfront, etc).

I was told a new Treasure Island resort opened very recently but I can't find any information.

Thanks very much.

Tipsy,

AC (Angeles City, where Clark is located) is not near the beach, but the Orchid hotel has a great pool and food. The nightlife is worth a look.

I'd go to the Blue Rock in Bario Baretta. (one town beyond Olongapo). Ask for Tomo (one of the owners and a good guy guy to boot!) and tell him you want a room. 24 hour food and booze and you're just about a 10 minute taxi ride from Muff Divers in Subic City. (or so I've been told,...)

Why not book the jumpseat and spend 2 or 3 days in Bangkok? You can get the crew rate at the Grand Sukhumvit Hotel, do some sightseeing, visit the Palace, take a train ride to the bridge on the river Kwai, and still enjoy nightlife that is probably the best in the world. Or you could just check in to the Orchid Hotel in Angeles City, and have a restful stay.;)

In Angeles, I'd stay at the Orchid Inn or Wild Orchid. The Orchid in:

Nice pool and excellent location.

If you'd like to drive about 1:30 and be on the beach, try:

Blue Rock is right on the beach in Subic. It has a dive ship. A floating bar. 24 hour bar and restaurant. Activities close by.
You can book online or call their front desk at 011 63 47 224 9042. Ask for Tommo! Tell him your a UPS pilot.

ENJOY!

You can do that without leaving CLark, I think he is after something more....wholesome?

TipsyMcStagger 05-20-2007 04:20 AM

Thanks for the info. Not interested in Angeles City and I can sit by the pool at the Holiday Inn.

Willing to travel the hour and a half to Subic...I was told there is a van that runs daily from Angeles City to Subic...or if necessary I'll rent a car.

Just looking to have a room on the beach...that's all.

Take the Twin Otter from Manila to Subic and back if you want.

The place is dead! It's on the other side of the base and the is absolutely NO nightlife.

The guys at Kokomo's have just opened a new place on Baloy Beach.

Tipsy, I am not a Purple Type (or any other color for that matter), but could I persuade you to visit Manila and at the same time play courier for me by taking something to my goddaughter? I’d really appreciate it; I have no plans to go there for a while having just visited there a few years ago.

Old Coastie 05-21-2007 07:16 PM

Vagabond,
That's a big no-no these days-carrying something for someone else, especially internationally. Send it Fedex.;)

vagabond 05-21-2007 07:57 PM

Coastie, isn't Tipsy a Purple Stud? If he carried it for me, I'd be sending it FedEx, wouldn't I? De facto. :)

I don't work for FedEx.

courier to PI,,

Vagabond, Tipsey's a "box nazi" (not that there's anything wrong with that). Unless you know a pilot real well, I think it would be rude to ask him to transport a package for you,,,not to mention it would be stupid if the pilot consented to do it. Your a rich mouthpiece,,,break down and ship it Fedex,,,,,:D

Hey Tipsy, if you haven't done this already, I would seriously consider going out and taking the Corregador (sp?) tour. It ranks up there with "The Wall" in D.C. Get to Manila and the boat leaves from downtown. It's an all-day tour and if you want, you can stay out on the island at the hotel there. Very well worth it. Have fun where ever you end up.
