What do you do for fun on the average layover. I need a project or hobby to keep me busy.

Thanks

I like going skinny-skiing, and to bullfights on acid.

Ponder why people would ever buy the over priced magazines, candy and trinkets from the ‘theft’ stores.....and have a realization, I just became a victim-

Run then eat and drink(usually with crew), short layover. Run, tour, then eat and drink long layover. Sometimes my runs turned into tours. I could always stop a run for something interesting once I stopped training for performance in road races. If you are not able to leave your hotel others will have to give you insight.

I like running, so I do that. We have some great overnights for running. If the hotel has a good gym I'll go lift weights and relax in the pool. After that I like to find public parks nearby to go wander or I'll walk around town and see what I can find. Historical stuff, interesting buildings, people watching, etc. Some of our layovers have really great hikes nearby. I always get takeout for dinner and it's usually somewhat far away, so a lot of my time is spent walking to and from the restaurant. I try to avoid spending money on activities as my budget right now doesn't support that.

I'm a social guy but I'm kind of a slam clicker on overnights. I use the time to decompress. I did the bar scene in my 20s and got pretty burnt out by it. But I will jump on an opportunity to go out with the crew if they're doing something other than dinner or drinks.

Flying for a Fractional Operator the old joke about the Navy "join the Navy and see the world thru a porthole" applied to us as we rarely had more than 12 hours free of duty. If we did we were put on hotel standby with a 30 minute call out. So limited chances to go out and see much unless it was very close to the hotel. We also did a fair amount of FBO standby. The way I dealt with it was a gaming laptop. I could always grab some game time while chatting with other nerds, ahem, I mean players in my group over voice comm. I also kept an e-reader with me and got a lot of books read.

I visit Chick Fil-A and while listening to my Audible books. If I am feeling extra crazy I will by myself an aviation related magazine.
