Geocaching
Now, I'm not yet working for an airline, but I start class in less than a month. One of the opportunities I am looking forward to once I start flying, though, is overnights in random places.
I was curious if there is anybody else around who participates in geocaching. It's where people go and hide containers in spots, then post the coordinates online. You then plug those coordinates into your handheld GPS and try to find it, sign the logbook, maybe trade one useless item for another useless item if the container is big enough. Geocaching has been a hobby for me for nearly four years now, and I love going to new places and trying to find caches. It seems to me that overnights will be an opportune chance to go out and find some new areas with this hobby for an hour or two, and I guess I was just wondering if there was anybody else that does this? |

I geocache, but you'll find that unless you have access to a car (such as with a corporate department), geocaching can be difficult when you're overnighting. (unless your right nearby a place with a cache).

I've seen a video of a guy who wrote "Guck FoJets" on the back of the hub on the ERJ. Hilarious. |

Zip Car I've been known to walk five miles round trip to find a cache. It gets you out of the hotel and little exercise. It's a win-win. Stallog |

- The website is better - There's at least 50x more caches - and there everywhere (15 in Basrah, Iraq) - They now have an iPhone app - GPS receivers have become more accurate and with more advanced interfaces (interfi?) You can tell I'm quite the geocacher. It's a grown-up's treasure hunt. Yes, my wife rolls her eyes every time I proclaim I've found another cache but it's too much fun to care. Stallog |
"Bring out your dead"! (thread, that is)

Stallog One part of the "game" has what's called "travel bugs". We just recently placed 6 of these in Vegas with the goal of racing to Atlantic city, and then other gambling mecca's. We also released a bug from South Carolina that is now in Germany. We were able to cache in 5 states (over 1000 miles) in one day in the Mooney. Geocaching - The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site It's quite addictive. |
I've found a few caches on overnights. They are around.
