Surf trips....

I know we have a fair share of surfers here. Where are some good easy non-rev, cheap rental car, short drive, cheap motel, good rum, places to jumpseat?

I did Nicaragua a few yrs back and it was a good trip except the AA agent charged me 200 for my board on the return flight to miami.

Rental car was abut 25$ per day, accomodations, 20$ per night. 1 hour drive iirc. Surf was good.

I was thinking about a trip to Cabarete in DR and renting a board as aposed to traveling with one. Any info?

I have always been fond of Kuta Beach Bali. Call in sick and take 2 weeks off! You will thank me when you get back.

I go to playa grande costa rica. Playa grande inn. Fly into Liberia. 45 min drive to the break from airport. 20$ on playa grande shuttle (book it online).About 50$ a night and you can split that with someone. You can rent boards for 13$ a day. My buddy and I went for 4 days and from the time I left my house until I got home I spent $300. Plan on eating every meal out. Prices are about the same as US for food. I have been thinking about making a thread like this. It would be cool to get a group of airline surfers to take trips with.

If you want to stay in the country, the east coast of FL is great Long, Fun, and Short boarding (especially during hurricane season). Check out Cocoa Beach, the beaches of Melbourne, and Sebastian (lots of sharks, seasonally). Best place to fly into is Orlando. It's only about an hour drive to Cocoa/Melbourne. Sebastian is about an hour and a half drive. If you want to go surf and party, check out the Jupiter/Palm Beach area. It's a little bit more expensive, but the...shall we say..."scenery" is exponentially better. Good luck, and have fun!

You guys are awesome,
Try Sydney, take the ferry to Manly Beach and pull in!
And there is always Hawaii.

Which coast are you on, and when is the trip? Mainland Mexico is always good and cheap for summer swell. Beachbreaks, reefs, points, plenty options and airports to choose from. Costa Rica is easy and plenny waves but expensive and crowded nowadays. HI always has waves, but summer swell equals town crowds on the south shore and $$$$. PR and the entire east coast is kinda hurricane dependent for summer swell...Indo, Fiji, Tahiti are all guaranteed good times depending on time and money.

For quick and cheap can't beat mainland Mex. Fly into ZIH, rental cars were $8 a day last I was there. Drive time is 30-90 minutes depending on where u go. Beachfront accommodations from $10-100 depending on what u want (shared bath no ac =$10), I normally pay 20-30 a night anywhere in mex. Can also do PUerta Vallarta, Manzanillo, Mazatlan, Puerto Escondido, etc. all pretty similar rental cars roughly $20 a day, and cabanas for $20 a night.

I'm on my way to PR tomorrow. Anybody know about the breaks around SJU or traveling by bus with a surfboard?

Also, I'm using a day bag with my board wrapped in towels and plan on checking it. Probably not the smartest option, but it's all I've got. Fedex wanted $150 to ship it down, and that's heavily discounted! Hopefully I won't have to do any patching on the other end.
