Plus One Flyers
Thanks Tony. That is exactly the type of club I will be looking for as an opportunity to fly in the future. Unfortunately I'll have to find that JOB first before I can start paying $100+/hr flight time The social tonight looks like a good opportunity to meet the local flying community though. I just might have to stop by!

Yes, I joined the club about 4 months ago. Checked out in the Dutchess. There are two of them, and unfortunately, they're both a little rough.

I'll probably fly the new 182 turbo, for ski trips, and maybe the Cirrus, if they will lower the 10 hour "check out" for me. Lots of the generic C172 / PA28 type planes. I think the dues are $39/month.

Doing a red-eye to Dakar, Senegal tonight so that I can earn enough money to pay my dues ;-)

Get you flight instructor ratings, and teach at the club. Great retirement type job until you find a "real" job.

I was thinking of getting my instructor ratings, but I'll be leaving this area in the near future for hopefully 'greener pastures'
I'd need quite a bit of money to get up to speed on instructing GA in any case. Whatever happened to the days of $35/hr (wet) for a C-152? All the good 'ole days huh? I'd sure like to get a shot at that Cirrus someday though!

Cheapest plane I remember renting was a C152 at Wiley Post airport in Oklahoma City, while attending the FAA Academy there in 1988. $24 wet. Very nice machine.

I've flown a Cirrus a few times. Nice, stable plane. Great transportation. Comfy.

You have me beat - even during the same timeframe.
That $35/hr was out of Tulsa and Riverside in 86-'87.

I've not flown in the Cirrus but got a good tour of the cockpit in one at Cutter's in ABQ one time when I was passing through. I know that there are a lot of nice cockpits out there today with the advent of the glass cockpits, but I still like that one a lot for some reason! Of course I sat in a Piper Matrix months ago and it blew me away!

Tony-

I flew all of the dutchess(s) at that place. I don't think there is a such thing as a nice one since they no longer make them. I have a hand full of mx problems while flying in them. One of my first flights in one, while waiting for a friend to pick me up at the airport upon landing was told to contact miramar tower. He flew right over the departure end of runway 9(if miramar has 9/27s) and a f-18 had some manuevering to do. Anways we got to lake havasu(sp?) and we noticed that the starter gear would not come out of its housing. I decided to head into town while a mx tried to pull the gear out and also tried to hand prop the engine. A half an hour later, I get a call saying to head back to the airport(20ish min drive) cause he got the engine started and didn't want to shut it down. For sure not the best way to begin flying a 'new' plane.
