I substitute teach. Look at your local school board website for requirements. Most do not require a teaching certificate.

Become a certified personal trainer. You work for yourself and set your own hours. Added bonus: you stay in shape.

In Broward county it's around 11 dollars an hour (or 86 dollars a day for a 7.5 hour day)

and you get to say no I don't wanna work today!

It's not great money, but it works

You gotta think outside the box and stop working for the man. Be creative and start your own business. Yeah, it takes a little capital but not much sometimes. I saved up xmas money, birthday money, sold a bunch of old crap and used some performance bonuses for a year. Came up with enough money to start my own little business.

Make sure it's something easy to sell, doesn't have a lot of overhead or liability, and is recession proof.

Some easy ideas: DJ for hire or other entertainment service for bars and restaurants (they always need entertainment); learn web design; portable auto mechanic; Buy a nice camera, learn about photoshop and start selling awesome photos to Istock photos; Census jobs.

Just gotta find your niche.

I sell Advocare. Honestly it's not a ton of extra money. A few hundred bucks a month. But I love the discount on products I get for myself. And really, it's not hard to sell when other crew members see you take the products and ask about them. PM me for details

I know this is an old thread, but....

I totally agree with afterburn81. Running your own business is the way forward.
I recommend starting an internet business because all you need is a laptop and a wi-fi connection. Plus, there are so many options. You could run a site about flying, or sell products, give advice etc. It can have low start-up costs. Anyway, that's what I did and it has fitted in really well with my airline job.

I've been trying to break into e-commerce. What sort of site do you have?

Default Danger

The danger that lies in a second job is that it can open your eyes to the reality that there are easier more profitable ways to live other than flying the line.
