Pilot shortage... Again!

Eagle's mins were 800/100. They just announced all Eagle guys have a class seat at American, and the mins lowered to 500/50. If you don't have 800/100, you will have to pass a jet transition course before you start at Eagle. Eagle will pay for the jet transition course.
It is the first I have heard of a us airline paying for training outside of the airline, since the '60's. If you are an ERJ-145 capt, you can make $12K/month NET, with EVERY possible expense paid for. Those jobs used to be non-commuting, but now it's as good as 6 wks on/3 wks off, as the overseas hiring crunch is getting more and more serious every day.

That is my point. There is no shortage of pilots. There are too many pilots already; that is what has driven pay down. The airlines are lowering their mins to get low time pilots to work for peanuts because the more experienced pilots are sick of playing that game and have realized that you can't make a living for that pay and/or realized the pay is not worth it for what ever personal reasons.

That "loser"was hired in 1964 and likely retired before bankruptcy. A friend of his did cigarette commercials in 1963, the theme being "he can teach you to fly in 8 hours and smokes xxx". He was hired at TWA in '64 also. Kenny always said, hired six months earlier, I'd have been a captain years longer, six months later and been furloughed for most of my career.
Where did you fly the Hawg?
