List of Captain's duties and responsibilities
 

Trying to update my resume for non-aviation jobs. Someone told me that they saw a list of duties and responsibilities on here somewhere. I am finding it hard to relate my flying experience into everyday language that is relevant to other jobs. If anyone know where this list is could you please point me in the right direction. Thanks for your help.

Operational control and asset management of $75 million piece of equipment, customer service and safety, operational desicion making, adhereance to Federal Regulations, strict adherance to Operations Standards, crew and asset management, etc. Just to name a few.

Master and Commander of the sky

Not trying to sound like a smart*** but isn't that published on just about every airline's FOM, so you should check out your company's.

As airline pilots, so many skills and abilities become so ingrained in
our nature over time, we forget we have them. Let me remind you about
some of the skills and abilities you have that you may not realize...

You have the ability to multitask.

You have the ability to follow complicated written procedures precisely.

You have the ability to work in a team environment.

You have the ability to evaluate situations and make good decisions
based on the information you've collected.

You have demonstrated a level of high responsibility for a multi
million dollar piece of equipment.

You have the ability to work under pressure.

You have the ability to remain professional when dealing with the public.

You have the ability to represent your employer in a positive manner
when the customer's perception of your employer is poor.

You have the ability to lead when necessary, and follow when appropriate.

You can dress in a professional manner.

You understand what "professionalism" means...at least most of us.

You have a demonstrated ability to function at a high level of
autonomy in a complex environment, yet the still know when to
recognize and utilize help when it is required.

YOU HAVE A DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO SOLVE PROBLEMS.

The responsibilities you should highlight would depend on the type of job you are applying for. I think it's a good idea to take a look at the requirements listed for your desired position, then show how you've developed and displayed those skills in your current and past positions. It sounds like a pain to come up with different resume bullets for different types of jobs, but I think you'll see much greater success with more focused material.

In my experience employers outside of aviation are not too excited to hire pilots at all. You might consider leaving the word "pilot" out entirely. All the rest is still good.
