Hate to bother everyone but generally how long does it take between being 'referred' to hearing anything else?

Again thanks for the help!

The timeframe from Referred to interview/hired can vary. HR says that the referral list is "valid" for several months. Being referred is a good thing, but it may not necessarily mean you will be interviewed or hired. It's more of a mystery/suspense than an exact science..

I know everyone is going to get tired of me asking questions but here I go...... I see that some new 1825 positions just opened up, the question is do they pull applicants to be 'referred' with the application window open or must the window shut before anyone can be called?

Thanks again to everyone for your patience!

Usually a vacancy announcement is open for 21 days. Sometimes the "window" for a particular announcement is open for almost a year. Once you apply and get on the Referral list, there is a finite period of time where the selecting official can interview and hire off the "referral list" (often called the selection list). The key is to check back often and apply to any/all openings that interest you and you are qualified for. If you are not a current Federal Employee, you can only apply to vacancies that are open to "US Citizens". Does not hurt to contact the offices you are interested in working for.

I received a letter via US mail 1 week after I was put on the referral list. Basically inquiring if I was still interested in the position and when I could start if offered an interview. ymmv.....

A rather complex question.

If someone applies for a specific 1825 location and gets referred, then a nation wide window opens up and the individual, that already has been referred, applies for a different region as his first choice, would the original region find out via the preferences or was the original preference captured when he was referred?

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks,

I would call the FAA aviation careers number listed on the vacancy and ask them your question. They were very helpful when I called with this exact issue. I reapplied when the latest vacancy was posted, even though I currently have an interview scheduled for a differnt location. This should increase the likelihood of you getting an interview, but who know how the FAA works. Good luck!

Any updated info on what to expect during the interview. I believe the interview in Dallas is just HR type questions and not technical in nature, but I also know they have recently changed their interview process.

I don't know if the 121 and GA interviews are different - but back in August last year - ten questions, none technical. They want to know about your aviation background, how do you organize work, how do you deal with difficult people, etc.

Having worked here six months, I can sort of see the reasoning. There are a lot of tasks, you have to be organizing, have to prioritize, you have to deal with some upset people, etc. There really is no prep, in my opinion, you just have to be yourself.

The Interview was just an HR panel type, and the questions mirrored the KSAs. It really was a none event, and not something you can study for in advance. I was offered a date for the flight check, but looking at the pay for GS11 I don't think I can make that work.
