Wow that's amazing. Apparently it's office to office on the timing.

I'm interviewing next week for a GA position. Any advice?

Like everyone here has said, the questions are straight off the KSAs. Sell your experience in your answers. Having an understanding of how SMS works is a big help to integrate into some of the questions as well. The interview is basically you talk, they listen and take notes.

hattrick79 and DhruvK

CONGRATS!!! Glad to hear they are starting to make the calls. I know what y'all mean concerning 'not flying' for a living! I have been flying for about 30 years and I am definitely nervous about making the transition myself.

Also either one of y'all can PM me and we could compare notes.:D

Yeah my biggest concern is I don't have the necessary field experience to be a Fed. I applied mainly to see how the process would play out, but I've only got 3.5 years of CFIing followed by a couple years of 135 freight under my belt.

The stability and opportunities presented by the position are hard to walk away from, but I wonder if I'm stunting a whole dimension of my career development if I confine myself to a desk overseeing a field full of people with far more experience than me.

If this is what you think of the job then you haven't explored the opportunities that this position can lead too - to include flying opportunities.

First off, congratulations to you guys.

My unsolicited .02 (disclaimer - I don't know anyone's reasoning nor personal situation), but if you doubt at all that you are going to miss the airline/corporate/whatever life, you should probably just keep flying for a living.

If you don't have a motivator to make a big change, if you still love flying and identify yourself with that profession, in my personal opinion you may regret your decision to step away from it.

Good luck with the next steps, whatever your decision may be!

Believe me I'm not trying to be pessimistic about it. I completely understand and appreciate the merits of the position, which is why I applied in the first place. I'm moreso having trouble self-evaluating that I measure up to the position despite it being offered to me. It'll pass once I hit training (assuming I receive and accept a FOL) and get some more perspective I'm sure.

I work next to a guy who's entire aviation career was spent training at, instructing at, and working the way up the chain at Embry Riddle - Daytona Beach. I'm sure they are looking for a variety of experience just like most employers SAY (at least) they are looking for - even the cookie cutter airline pilots (think everyone wearing the exact same suit to the interview cookie cutter image). I was in a class when I first started with a new ASI who was a retired JAL 747 Captain. Who do you think would likely have a better hand on the GA world should they be hired into a GA ASI position (I'm assuming he wasn't but I doubt it isn't byond imagination that one might be). Take your experience, learn from the people around you, listen when you are in training at the Academy and such, and always be looking for new and challenging positions/opportunities that might lead you who knows where in your new field. Btw - it isn't the end of flying. I know LOTS of FAA people that own their own planes in my local area. Now they fly for fun :)

You read my mind! That's exactly what I plan on doing :D
