Just to elaborate a bit on BluLavBoy's comments- The large CMO's have Supervisory POI's which are GS-15's. Typically the G/A POI's top out at GS-14. Office Managers are usually the highest paid (equivalent to GS-15). It is also possible to transfer from Air Carrier to G/A and vice versa. There is a process for that. Note that for Air Carrier going to G/A, you must have your CFI certificate current (normally). Air Carrier Ops does not require a CFI.

As far as travel i don't know... I think it depends... I have heard of some GA guys wanting to go Air Carrier so they can be home more often so I guess it can go both ways. Maybe JNB or PerfInit can elaborate on that aspect.

The amount of travel largely depends on the position. Count on at least 3 trips to OKC annually and 4 trips to AFW for training/flight (G/A) currency after the first year. Some G/A Ops positions and Air Carrier positions involve minimal travel. Others travel extensively. If you are typed and current in a biz jet, you may be traveling extensively to conduct check rides nation-wide in addition to your normal duties. For new hires, count on at least two long stints in OKC for Indoc. One stint is typically 5 weeks and the other is 3-4 weeks long.

this thread blew up 4 pages quick! The FSDO I interviewed for supposedly closed out without any selections at this time. (Boo..). Not sure if they are going to open back up but it's a communication nightmare. Who knows what's happening

I decided to start looking in to applying for the ASI job, and lo behold I find this thread!

Looking at usajobs, the posting expires 9/30. From what you guys have said, they close it at the end of the FY. Is it too late to get an application in "realistically?"

No real way to answer your question as nobody has a crystal ball. Put your name in the hat and see what happens!

Always apply. Keep the resume and application current. Sometimes they extend or hire more off of the old list. Even if one is not sure if it is the right career move. One cannot turn down the offer unless one receives an offer.

Default Central Region Hiring Suspended?

Hired, working on start date then called next day and told region was over allotment and start would be delayed until attrition increased because they over hired. CMO

Nationwide or just regional?
