I have a ride coming up for GA ASI position and am wondering if anyone has insight into the content/conduct of the ride. I've heard everything from "it's pass/fail, held to comm/instr PTS standards" to "it's mainly to verify you aren't an idiot and can still fly an airplane and they don't expect you to be proficient".
I've done a few practice flights recently in the Seminole to shake the rust off in that particular airplane but I have 8 years experience as a 135 PIC. On the other hand, I hadn't flown ME in a year and a half until this month. Maybe I'm just being paranoid/overly nervous. I've never failed a checkride but I really want this job so I'm pretty stressed out. Thoughts/input? Thanks very much!

I'm in the same boat at the moment. I have plenty of light twin time and am current, but I've never flown a Seminole. Looking to gather whatever data I can about the ride and oral.

When you say hoping for "a flight check call", are you referring to a call from a hiring FSDO to conduct a flight check for a ASI position or are you talking about a call for a position in 'Flight Check'?
Just wanted to make sure we weren't mixing the two different roles/offices there.
If in fact you were talking about 'Flight Check' (officially called Flight Inspection Services (FIS)), then check out this extensive thread in the Hiring section:

Good luck in any manner.

In regards to General Aviation Ops Inspectors, I was thinking about filling out an application and throwing my hat into the ring as well. Was hoping someone might have some inside info about the average qualifications a new hire usually has. Personally, I have CFI/II/MEI, ATP, 2000+ hours, 700+ dual given, along with about 500+ hrs turbine in a Part 135 op that I currently fly for. Unfortunately no aviation Bachelors degree until late this year or early next year (part time student just finishing it up while on the road) Not exactly high numbers but well over "minimum qualifications". I also have a buddy who's an ASI at the local FSDO that will most likely mention my name whether that helps or not who knows! Any feedback would be awesome, thanks!

Go to USA Jobs.gov and review the vacancy announcement. Your quals will definitely put you in a competitive position, even without a degree (not required). Due to the pilot shortage and baby boomer retirements, its a great time to get onboard. Lots of opportunities...

GA is the way through the door...
GA's hurting for bodies. If that is what you are after, you stand a better chance of getting picked up a FSDO and transferring later. Heard talk of a bonus for GA.
